Pet Insurance Companies

Just got a puppy & I’m overwhelmed looking at different companies. Anyone have a company they love?
Ps - Happy Thanksgiving! I’m grateful for the wonderful COTH community & all the advice, wisdom & support you provide.

We have used Embrace for years. They are not as great as they used to be (some calls on coverage that I didn’t agree with, but albeit in gray areas) but in general very good. Claim process is easy online. No more need for vet signature. And best of all in my opinion is that they treat the policy like one long policy, rather than a new one at each renewal like equine insurance and some other small animal insurers. So your list of preexisting conditions never changes.

They also have a lot of flexibility in terms of percent covered versus your premium etc. So you can play around with the numbers to see what works best for you. For us, it’s really there for emergency or catastrophic events, so we have the annual deductible set at $1000 to keep the premium lower, but we also have the reimbursement rate set at 90%.

That said, we are renewing our two greyhounds right now. They are older so the combined annual premium is almost $3000. Yikes!

I have Pets Best insurance for my cat and really like them. They’re affordable (I pay ~$20/mo.), and the customer service is very helpful and easy to get through to over the phone. He has a small deductible, but once that’s met, there’s no $ cap amount of coverage like you see with a lot of horse insurance plans, for example. They have an app and overall just seem very easy to use. We’re getting him a new baby (kitten) brother in December, and once he has a name I’ll be signing him up for it too.

Seconding Embrace! I have it for my two young dogs, one 3yo and one 2yo. I think I have a standard plan and pay $61 a month for them combined.

Jealous! Mine are 7 and 10 and I think greyhounds are more expensive than most. Probably because they have a higher bone cancer risk than most other breeds.
