Pet toys NOT made in China?

Does anyone know of a source of US-made pet toys?

I ask not out of a sense of patriotism, but of safety. Seems like every couple of months there are recalls on Chinese-made kids’ toys; I doubt the pet toys are as closely inspected.

I do not relish the idea of having my dogs play with things that might be stuffed with, say, cadmium.

Pet Supermarket used to have several, and thankfully the ones we bought have held up and are cherished favorites. But I can’t find them anymore, sigh.

Or am I being paranoid?

Did you see that Diane Sawyer has a special report coming up this week? They removed ALL items from a typical, middle class family’s home that were not made in the USA …There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During the special they are going to show truckloads of items - USA made – being brought in to replace everything and will be talking about how to find these items and the difference in price etc…

It was interesting that Diane said that if every American spent just $64 more than normal on USA made items this year, it would create something like 200,000 new jobs!

I WAS SHOCKED SO FOR A FEW MORE CENTS I BOUGHT THE LIBERTY GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE SINCE IT’S FROM CALIF.

Are we Americans as dumb as we appear — or — is it that we just do not think while the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets?

70% of Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended.

Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges? DO IT YOURSELF, AMERICA !!

Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China ’ or ‘PRC’ (and that now includes Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without.

Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter is just an example. The point is do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own.

THINK ABOUT THIS: If 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that’s a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor…fast!!

Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on May 1st and continue it until June 1st. That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the
total, or 8%, of their American exports. Then they might have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it. Remember, MAY 1 TO JUNE 1st !!! START NOW.

Let’s show them that we are Americans and NOBODY can take us for granted.

If we can’t live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives, WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET!

I dont have a problem buying things made in China. I buy the brands I like based on taste first and cost second. I dont think much of my food comes from China though. Even my rice comes from California.

As far as pet toys go, it doesn’t matter where they are made, if its not a ball it lasts about 2.5 seconds before its destroyed. :lol:

But when your dog destroys, and maybe eats part of, a toy that’s been stuffed with something toxic. . .:no: I KNOW the odds are small, but I’d prefer to avoid the risk entirely.

(And no, I can’t sew, so making my own is out of the question, presuming I could find non-imported materials).

Does no one remember the pets who died from the contaminated Chinese-manufactured pet food? It hasn’t been that long ago. Think the toys are safer?

OP: My fav fav fav fav fav fav FAV pet site out there (far and above Smartpak, even!) is http://www.olivegreendog.com They have “eco friendly” pet products…they are all made in the USA, for the most part, out of safe, human-grade materials. Every toy (or any other product!) I’ve purchased from them has been excellent quality, and even my aggressive chewer has had a tough time destroying some of their “tough toys.” Plus I know my money is going to people right here in the USA who make these products, while my pet chews on a safe toy.

So I just looked, my cat litter, cat food, dog food canned and dry, and all their treats are made in the US. I am sure that the toys are made in other countries but there aren’t any tags so I dont know which ones. Right at this minute my dog is playing (destroying) an empty giant sized cat litter container (Made in America ;)).

The thing about the “Chinese products” line is that a lot of the things we buy are not made in the US but also are not made in China. I have things in my house that are made in Mexico, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Korea…the list goes on.

The last toys I bought for my dog I know were made in the US because it said so on the front of the box. She is still pooping out bits of string and material. I think I will stop wasting my money and let her play with kitty litter containers, it’s holding up pretty well. :lol::lol:

I hear you, Mrs. CB, and I do know it’s not just China. But the Chinese do have most of the manufacturing business. I also know that it’s possible to buy domestically-manufactured crap as well.

This is just my decision, to try to seek out well-made products from the home country. Others may not worry so much, and you can think I am silly for doing so. It won’t hurt my feelings!

See, if I went to the trouble of learning to knit something as complex as a stuffed dog toy (mine do not like rubber toys), I know that’s the one that would be destroyed within SECONDS! :lol::lol:

Most of the dogs’ toys are worn, but still in one piece, though the yak lost its feet a long time ago. But every once in a while they’ll get a new toy that must be destroyed immediately. Like those long weiner dog toys - ripped to shreds inside of an hour!
