My friend is possibly wanting to go to one of his clinics - we like to do clinics together if possible. I was NOT impressed with one of his dvd’s but am willing to listen to anyone who has ridden with him - your thoughts -positive or negative.
I rode in a Peter Campbell clinic last summer. I did not like him at all. Let’s just say he is not a people person. He is very rude and abrupt with people and acts as though he really couldn’t be bothered with you. Those are his people skills…his horse skills, that is a different story. He truly is amazing with horses and knows his stuff. he did some one on one with my horse and had amazing results. So I will not take that away from him. So, I suppose it depends how thick skinned you are, because you will need it to ride in one of his clinics.

I have not ridden in his clinic but attended one that a friend was riding in. This was MANY years ago (6?) - so take this as you will - but my impression was exactly the same as Missy’s. During lunch he was working with a horse in the round pen and my friend and I were discussing it about what he trying to do and accomplish. We hit a wall for us and I told her to go ask him about it - after all she was riding in the clinic. So she went up to him and asked. I did not hear the exchange but she looked a little defeated when she came back. She said he told her,“I could explain it to you, but you wouldn’t understand.”:no:
Then after the clinic was over for the day he was helping someone out with their horse, but made it a very loud point that he was helping them ON HIS OWN TIME since the clinic was OVER. While he was working with this person and her horse, his assistants were standing quite a ways off talking and laughing. He turned around at one point and said,“If you think you have nothing to learn, you can just leave.” :uhoh: He was NOT kidding.
From what I saw/heard that day there is nothing to entice me to attend any more of his clinics, either riding or auditing. There are just as good and better horsemen who I’d rather give my $$ to.
I audited 2 of his clinics a few years ago. He is a skilled horseman - not a good teacher. It is the special person that can do both. He is not in that category.
He was rude to people who didn’t “get it” right away. He let them languish on their own, and with 15-20 participants in his group sessions, many folks didn’t get anything out of the session. Not sure how he still gets participants at all with his reputation and past performances…but in rural areas where you get him or nothing…I guess that keeps him in business??
Thanks - actually - I ended up watching his DVD ( where he put ‘horse whisperer’ ‘cowboy’ next to his name) and the video was really BAD. I could also see where he was rude & annoying. A friend of mine took a clinic with Cal Middleton - and he said Peter Campbell was his mentor so she thought she might want to go to Peter Campbell also. I told her that I wouldn’t go…
Same as the comments above, plus MANY, MANY Tom Dorrance quotes that I’m not sure were really other than parroted. Watched one day, never been back, sure a heck wouldn’t ride in one.
