Petrie vs Konig boots

Does anyone know how the footbed of Petrie dressage boots compare? Konig footbeds fit me well as need wide toe box, but am tempted by some nice Petrie found online but have never been able to try them in person.

Imo the konigs are far superior in quality. I’ve never had Petries on bc I’m not a fan of their leather or craftsmanship.

Konig split off their boots into two different levels of quality. So are Petrie lesser than the quality versions or lesser than say Favorites?

My last boots were Konig GrandGesters. Started to fall apart within 3 months and total trash in 3 years of light riding. Seams gave way, leather split, zippers needed replacing, soles came apart. Really disappointing for the $$$$ price. Petrie customs have an option for a wide footbed, which is what I have on my current boots. Pair #1 is 3 years old and looks brand new. Original zippers, no leather damage, superb construction. Pair #2 is a year old and also looks brand new in heavy riding. Ordered direct from dutchridingboots.com, great price.

Edited to add: full custom Anky Elegance in cow leather (cheaper but more durable and does take polish very well) is currently $670. $830 in calf.

I had an old pair of Konigs marked “Made in West Germany” they seemed a little narrower in the foot than my Petrie Anky Elegants. I have medium/wide large feet (Euro 42). Now I’m in Celeris Bias which I think are about the same in the foot as the Petries, and will probably buy another pair of Celeris while the Euro is down.

I love my Petries. They seem to hold up much better and last longer than many other brands. I have a very wide foot and find the off the rack models a touch narrow. Custom footbed is standard in all full custom models, and the entry price point for custom is really affordable.

I have no experience with Konigs except for a friend who had to have them remade 3 times before they fit. Not sure if that was a measuring issue with the rep or a manufacturing issue.

i have 2 pair Konigs bought 5 years ago. Both are holding up well. What sold me is that the sole is lasted and so can be resoled when the time comes, and that trainer’s held up for many+ years.

I love my Petrie boots. I’ve had them probably 8 years now and just replaced the zipper last year, but otherwise they are holding up great to daily riding.

I wouldn’t say the footbed is very wide (mine are semi-custom), so if you are buying used I would ask for that measurement before you commit.

Another Petrie fan here. But I am with Piaffe11 - you need to get them semi-custom to get the wide footbed. DD foot here, so I feel your pain.

Good to know. I have short but wide feet and now the right foot has a bone spur and bunion? So I have to have a wide footbed for it. Thank you high heels!

Another vote for Petries. I’ve replaced the zippers in both and the Konigs are a lot stiffer so probably last longer over the long haul. That said, I routinely get at least 7 years out of my Petries.

I have not ridden in many years but I loved my Petrie Anky boots ( from 10 years ago) . The foot bed was so comfortable. I need a high toe box to allow of an enlarged big toe joint. I also have an instep that could never get in to Ariats. The were off the shelf stock and so nicely made

Oh I have one of those big toe joints too. Maybe a bone spur? Do the off the shelf boots have a roomy toe box or did you have to order semi custom?

Mine was off the shelf. My joint enlargement is a common wear / fusing situation. The lack of range of motion of leaves me only able to wear heels under 1 inch.

Got my first pair of Petries about 15 years ago. Have only bought that brand since, cuz if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I’ve ordered mine from Dutchridingboots.com and they are wonderful to deal with. I ride 2 or more horses per day and they’ve always held up nicely with moderate care. I always get compliments on them!

Sorry I just need to brag :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:. These arrived today.

I bought them on EBay and was scared to death they would not fit or would have less quality then my Koenigs, But they are simply perfect. Not only beautiful but also very very comfortable and amazing leather quality!!! I think I will wear them tomorrow when I go to the barn. They are new but I am not scared of blisters at all!!!

I’m looking at ordering some of those. Do you still like them? Do you think the foot size is consistent with other EU sized shoes?
