I am so used to PD being ranked up high that I was very surprised to see that his dressage score was the lowest of the four (the one dropped).
Who was there and what happened?

I was watching on FEI TV. It went to hell in a hand basket when he got to the flying changes near the end. The horse got all excited and started jumping in the air etc. Scores in the 3’s and 4’s
Yep. As Equinedriver said…there’s hell, there’s your handbasket. Not what I expected of the anchor horse, but that’s eventing.
I missed Comet’s go Must have been awesome!
I thought the test was scored a bit harsh for the quality of the earlier work before the changes though…

All I know is that the commentary on FEI TV was verbally saying the individual and overall score as the test went along and he was as high a 4th, and in the top 10 until the end, so I think the scoring was probably in line. Perhaps 4’s might have been a more fair score for the jumping and resistance at the end. There are 49 horses within 20 pts, and 14 within 10 so just goes to show how far a few points hurts you at that level.
I am sure Phillip and the team are disappointed, but we go on from here.
I believe that I may have read “Eventing Nation” incorrectly. I just went back to their site. Boyd Martin would be the dropped score.
However, the USA team is in 7th. Good luck to all for their extremely difficult cross country test tomorrow!
Philip had a 47.7 at Rolex so they’re not that far off with their 48.2 here. Actually most of our riders are close to their Rolex scores. Karen is a little worse, Becky’s a lot better, Buck didn’t run at Rolex, Neville didn’t even break 50 at Rolex.
Unfortunatley, the Germans, Swedes, Italians, etc. weren’t here in the spring. Even if you look at WFP, he’s actually scored better than his winning Rolex score and he’s in 12th here.
We’ll see if tomorrow shakes things up at all.

Great summary.

Just walked the course. It won’t be a dressage competition.
Really, so many tests were lovely. Karen got at least one 9, and there were maybe a dozen other riders who did too.
Here’s where the interesting part comes in, I think.
The course is long, and tough, with long galloping stretches using most of the Horse Park area. I wonder if one might think that it would favor TBs and the horses who have tremendous amounts of Blood. I’d like to think that Mike E-S built a course that would favor the Anglo countries, as it was rumored that the Los Angeles show jumping designer built a course that would favor the American horses and riders.
What I’m really wondering about is all the German and other continental riders who may have only done one or two or three CCIs in their entire careers.
Can we just say, it’s not his strength. I don’t think that’s any secret that it’s not his favorite part of eventing. He does great in the cross country, very skillful. But I believe his dressage has actually improved over the years.
I’ve scribed for his dressage test once at Fair Hill, so I’m not surprised he didn’t score high.
