WOW! Love those pics! Very impressed with those group pics in the valley with riders everywhere!

And soooo green ( coming from someone who lives in SA … green we don’t see much lol )

Very jealous and makes me want to come over there even more.

P.

Gorgeous country, otterhound! And what a big field following the hounds. I hope you’ll post more pictures!

Thank you for sharing. What wonderful photos!

I can’t get over the huge field of riders!

Damn - I hate facebook.

Holy Moly that’s a big field. The territory is spectacular and the hounds are lovely.

Thanks so much for sharing those.

Lordy!! Talk about a field that stretched across the horizon! Stunning territory to hunt, too. What a treat that must be.

The big fields are at Dannevirkes Hunt Week, held last week. About 300 riders at each hunt, of which there were 4 in a 7 day period. We had similar fields at our hunt week a couple of years ago, and we (Northland Hunt) are hosting another next season. Most hunt weeks attract fields of between 300 and 420 riders.

Equibrit these are for you. Not quite the same as Otterhound’s but similar country. Most were taken a couple of years ago at a hunt week - so some of them show large numbers. Some of them also show hardly anyone because the field is so strung out.

A couple of my hound puppies:

A bit different:

And iconic NZ hunting:

And Otterhound: awesome photos. I didn’t meant to hijack your thread.

No prob phoebe - hey who do you hunt with? And had to laugh - I have a Dally too - she feeds with hounds in the slaughterhouse, and when we’re out for the day hunting, she goes in with whatever hounds are left at home. However she sleeps inside at night, except if we hunt away for the weekend when she camps out with hounds left home.

Love the pics and makes me so jealous! I’ve always wanted to hunt but never had the chance. If we make it to Southern Pines, my first call is to the Moore County Hunt. I have one eventer that was a fox hunter in Ireland and one little QH who is bold and loves x-c. Thanks for the extra motivation!

So jealous! Beautiful area.

Oh, otterhound - and phoebe - what great photos! Thanks so much for posting them! I hope I make it to your part of the world one day - my Dad was stationed on New Caledonia during WWII and has always talked about going back there.

Well call me second! I only live an hour and a half from Southern Pines. I don’t have country like otterhound and phoebe’s - it’s green, Lord knows, but flat as a pool table - but there’s plenty of it to go riding in.

Wow!

WOW!
I’m in awe of your country and your horses! Otterhound and Phoebe, would you please cross post these photos over on the event forum? We have a thread going there about why hunt? What does it do for you that practicing in an arena or cross country practice course doesn’t. Some education would really help them understand about the secure seat and the challenges of real world cross country. Phoebe, beautiful form over that wire fence, and what a great jumper!

I’m impressed that 420 horses can do this kind of hunting and jumping. How do you train them to jump wire with no topline? Your horse are so famous for their athletism. I’m beginning to understand why. I’ve only seen the horses that come here with your event teams. Since they are representing you at such a high level, I expected them to be the best of the choices. I had no idea of the depth of the breeding programs.

You are hunting jack rabbits, right? The rabbits here don’t go far and quickly circle. How do yours run?

I now want to come visit you and brigin home some horses. That’s a new dream. And my family wants to go, too!

That latest pic looks like haven!

P.

If I lived there I’d never go inside. Gorgeous.

You have successfully exploited every romantic notion of hunting I’ve ever had. How do sign up for citizenship?
