In your experience, is a 4’ picket fence more or less expensive than a 4 board w/ horseman’s wire or top board/horseman’s wire fence? I am trying to fence my backyard smaller than it is currently and it has 4 board w/ mesh along the front (to look the same as the horse’s paddock but mesh to keep my dogs inside) and top board/horseman’s wire along the sides. I’m trying to fence a smaller backyard within that fencing (use the front and the back but “cross fence” the sides to be smaller and utilize a portion between new backyard fence and exterior fence for an additional horse paddock.
I want it to be attractive b/c it will be visible from my back windows and to look somewhat in keeping with the property fencing (hence considering 4 board) but more than anything it needs to keep my dogs inside! I’m considering a tall picket fence b/c it would also provide some more privacy for the backyard than the 4 board in the front or the horsemans wire/top board along the current sides.
I won’t do chain link and I don’t want a full privacy fence. If I put up a 4 board PLUS wire it just gets expensive … is that as expensive as a 4’ picket fence? Opinions? Ideas? As a note, I will be keeping chickens on one side and would love to not only fence the dogs out but perhaps provide a solid fencing on that side to prevent them from seeing the chickens too. That’s why I was thinking picket fence …
