Pigeon Fever outbreak in Florida

There’s an outbreak of pigeon fever in Florida. I’m not sure how widespread it is or not. Would you consider vaccinating?

I’m not sure how concerned I should be or if it’s isolated to just a specific area.

I mean fly control is pretty much impossible. The neighbors have 8 cows. My other neighbors have about 50 cows. Flies are apart of life.

Morrison area is what I heard but could be elsewhere.

Would you continue to trailer off to state parks? Would not traveling with your horses help? Not sure I’ve ever heard of this being a problem. Not in this area.

Honestly for me encephalitis is more of a concern. of course most of us vaccinate for that. I don’t think I would vax for Pigeon Fever, but it’s been awhile since I’ve looked into it. I seem to recall that there can be some serious complications from the vaccine but I may be mistaken and it’s possible that has changed.
I also saw the other day there is a barn under quarantine in I think N Central FL for strangles which is also concerning.

Do they still make the vaccine? I thought it was pulled a while ago.

You know what I don’t know it’s been awhile since I looked into it .
