Pinto Warmbloods? Samber?

They may be moving to the states in the next year  so you may have a chance!

But yep, gorgeous, sweet, I cannot emphasize the great personality he has! My 2.5 year old daughter was running around and didn’t mind a bit!

Great decision Vic! Go for it!

I guess I should have mentioned I was in NZ! This makes life a bit difficult as sadly not many SOs will send semen to NZ.

I would use Chess or Sempatico in a heartbeat if they were available here…

There is a stud farm in Australia that bought a lot of Chess semen and maybe they would breed a foal for you by him or you can send a mare to them to be inseminated there? Contact me and I will give you their details.

Thank you to everyone too  It is good to know that so many people think well of him and that line! It makes me alot more confident.

Oh yes, that line isn’t such a popular one simply because of the color

There is also Whats Colour in Australia… he is ToTo…

A few Kiwis have already bred to Ringo… so his semen may already still be there in storage?

It is a custom foal for an Australian buyer and she wants colour, hence the stallion must be homozygous. I’m not convinced I’m going to do it but I thought I’d look around and so far I’ve found it really really hard going.

Please, no QH in the pedigree (buyer’s request).[/QUOTE]

Have you looked into Kenlock Park Stud in Australia? They breed pinto warmbloods, two of their studs were purchased here in the US from Liz Hall who owns Sempatico. One is by Spectrum and the other by Sempatico.
http://www.kenlockpark.com/stallions.html

A Samber son called Pie in the Sky stands (stood? He’d be a very old boy if he’s still around now) over here. He only had limited approval with the AES so could only cover his owners mares but despite that he sired Park Pilot who is a 4**** eventer and went round Badminton and was clear cross country. Park Pilot is now 17 years old and still eventing at 3*** level. He is out of a TB mare.

So a Samber son is capable of passing on enough speed and jump to do eventing but I’d really only consider putting one to a full TB mare if you want an eventer to get to the upper levels. Warmbloods can do low level eventing absolutely fine but they struggle when the speed and length of the cross country increases. Even now the overwhelming majority of top eventers are at least 50% TB.

Yes, my horse is a full thoroughred by Ascot Knight  and Fuhler has alot of TB blood in his line too, he is actually about 50% tb blood himself…So my foal will be more then 75% thoroughbred blood

And Fuhler is actually quite a lighter wb, he is solid, but he is actually a stallion and he is all legs. Very nice and very powerful. He has a great shape, so im excited! My horse is quite nice too, but as with any TB he weakest point is her neck/shoulder… I was hoping by breeding to something with a little WB lines i’d be able to improve that

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I had ruled out Ringo due to his height. My mare is height challenged and I need a taller stallion to compensate.

I didn’t even know about Kenlock Park! Their 2 pinto stallions are lovely but one isn’t standing at all and the other only does live cover.

Sending a mare to Australia for breeding sounds feasible but it is not cost effective at all. It ends up being a very expensive enterprise for what will be a moderately expensive foal.

Thanks for helping… I’ll have a rethink about what the client is really after.

I don’t know if your client is locked into WB or what kind of type she/he is after, but we also have a Saddlebred stallion here who we have people breeding to for eventers and dressage horses. He is 17hh and homozygous for both black and tobiano, but more importantly we imported him (we specialise in Saddlebreds) because his family are consistent and competitive performers under saddle. He needs a more solid type as he is a refiner; the heavier TB type or WB is best. We ship chilled and frozen (90% and 50% mot respectively) from WA.

I don’t know anything about colored horses but ran across this guy Sambertino http://www.flaxlion.com/index.php?page=sambertino while I was looking for another stallion. Maybe others can give you their opinions and knowledge of him.

Ooops This one too Samaii

Thanks Silvia. Do you have a website? In fairness though, I think I will have a hard time convincing the client to buy a half saddlebred foal as an upper level event prospect - had a hard enough time discussing part warmbloods with her!

Bluemoon - He is a lovely horse. I love his long hip and short back. Sadly he is not homozygous for pinto so I cannot guarantee a pinto foal.

Hi Kerole

That’s okay I just wanted to put it out there depending on what she was after

Our website is http://www.blackorchidstud.com.au

His photo gallery seems to be broken so here is a home video

Kerole,

since Chess is standing AI for the EU at the same station where the semen was frozen, maybe there is a chance to have just some additional tests done and the semen would be good for NZ too. I will ask them.

Kerole have you considered Copabella Visage I think he is available in NZ already. He is 16.2hh not sure if that is tall enough. I don’t think he is homozygous but is a high percentage colour producer.
I’m assuming you must have a special mare to breed from in NZ for the Oz buyer to go OS?

Silvia - thanks for the link. I will send it on to the client.

Aurum - Crikey Gwen! That would be great! I still can’t guarantee anything this year but I am most definitely interested. Did you know I have a TB mare (the same one this client wants to use) in foal to your young cremello colt Ikarus? Due at Christmas - I can’t wait!

Tycoon - In a normal world CV would be an obvious choice! The client already adores this stallion and he’s seriously well performed in the arena and as a stallion of successful sport horses. But she is adamant she wants a coloured foal. CV is not homozygous for colour so his chances of throwing colour are the same as any other heterozygous stallion - 50/50.

Great to hear Ikarus has started to breed in NZ. I heard from his owner that he is doing great under saddle. You must show me the outcome once it has been born!

Thanks to JB for mentioning Counterclaim. He is 75% TB, but I would like to add that he has three 'horse of the year" TB’s in that lineage, and also Buckfinder, who was featured a few years ago as one of the top three eventing sires featured that year.
One of his first test foals was just in his first dressage test and got a 68.75!!!That one was bred by Elio here on the COTH. Another test foal from that year is owned by Southern Oaks Equestrian Center and also got a 68 on his dressage test…they’re off to a good start!
