Considering my options for breeding… I event, and one of my local options is an Imported Dutch WB Pinto stallion? He is really nice looking and from the “Samber” lines if anyone has any info on that line?
One of the most famous pinto WB lines out there
They have done everything - dressage, eventing, hunters, jumpers. Some are more suited to one than others, some do well all over the place at lower levels. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the more well-known Samber-line stallions for Eventing, with some exceptions being upper levels. What level do you intend? Who is the specific stallion?
Samber was both a dressage horse and a jumper. Which is what european WBs are bred for, doing it all.
You might also look at Stanhope Diddicoy. The website is www.stanhope.com or www.stanhopestud.com I forget which. The Hessen registry has now merged with the Hannoverian registry, you will now have a Hannoverian rather than a Hessen foal.
I have a grandson of Samber (and on the material side, his great grandsire was inschallah.) I am prejudiced as the horses have both jumping ability and dressage movement…and they also have colour.
Yes, Samber is the most famous and successful pinto WB stallion. The only pinto stallion every approved with the very strict KWPN. He was quite successful as a jumper and dressage horse. But you have to remember he is only a fraction of the pedigree. None of his sons have been approved with the KWPN but went on to get approval with other registries. Personally I prefer Samber in my mareline. I own a KWPN Elite mare out of Samber who evented thru prelim until she checked a ligament and then started into her broodmare duties. Her Ferro son also evented quite successfully thru prelim until he was sold as a jumper. Both very athletic and with unlimited jumping ability but also capable of the dressage. But again…pay attention to the rest of the pedigree and do your research on each horse. Good luck…[edit]
I think she is asking about Fuhler.
He has been discussed here.

^ thanks Yes, I am asking about Fuhler, a friend owns him. I am looking at him and a few other local stallions (Harvard and a couple of other thoroughbreds)
swoon I absolutely love Fuhler and was infinitely bummed when I learned he didnt ship to the US. You could not go wrong with him for Eventing, assuming your mare isn’t a dud :). I should have guessed Fuhler but didn’t pay attention to where you are lol.
A friend of a friend just had a spotted Pali Fuhler filly who looks to be incredible already.
Go for it! Nice nice stallion
Obviously im partial to my horse so in my opinion she isn’t a dud
She is a thoroughbred so im looking at wb’s with more tb blood, but a little wb in them just for a little extra
Fuhler looks like a grand old boy! They’ve got some great pictures on there!
Our KWPN pinto stallion is by Caletto I and out of a Sport, Pref (hmmm, can’t remember…might be Prest…will have to check), Elite KWPN mare by Samber… We have frozen available in Canada. Not sure if it’s the Caletto I or the Samber at work but we’ve found ours to be just completely uncomplicated to work around and ride with fabulous jumps.
We’ve had some eventers from Palladio and already have one injured upper level mare booked to our young stallion by Palladio…upper level event rider tried him out and can’t wait to breed to him. I think there is the potential for some great event types from these lines.
Good luck!!!
Claim to Fame is an approved warmblood stallion, with a lot of TB blood. He’s very elegant, and has won nearly every beauty contest entered, including Devon. (Hunter Breeding). He also was successful in the professional divisions of hunters and in the amateurs with me! His foals are doing well too… He’s a very sweet, comfortable horse…you can see more of him, his foals and his video on our website…
He is lovely looking I am not interested in shipping semen at this point though.
Breeders are lucky now to have a variety of quality pinto Warmbloods to choose from in North America! And most will trace back to Samber somewhere in the pedigree, as he is arguably the most influential stallion in the history of pinto Warmbloods and (as Sabino Farm noted) the only one to be approved by the KWPN. (As a side note, Nico, the only pinto Friesian Sporthorse to ever be Approved for Breeding also traces back to Samber.)
Some pinto Warmblood stallions I’ve bookmarked along the way:
- Sempatico (homozygous)
- Pallido Blu CF (homozygous)
- Precipitation (homozygous)
- Art Deco
- Palladio
- Claim to Fame
- Hall of Fame
(There are more, but since my “breed of choice” frowns on the use of Paint blood to get pintos, I haven’t really kept track of the stallions with Paints in their pedigrees…)
Good luck Vic_007 for a 2012 pinto foal!
You might take a look at Juss for the Taste. He is a Samber son and is standing on the west coast. I have a Domino (Samber son, deceased) gelding who is athletic, sane and an amazing work ethic. I have been looking at Juss and thinking about my next horse, he has only been in the States for a couple of years. It is said that Juss passes on a great mind and confirmation.

On a side note, both Precipitation CF and Pallido Blu CF are full brothers bred by us, sired by Palladio. Pallido Blu CF has conditional approval with RPSI.
Also, the Juss babies we’ve seen here over the years have been more of the heavier types…maybe just because I always saw them at the USDF shows but he is a heavier type as well. He’s been in the states for at least ten years I can think of…maybe longer…the ones I’ve seen have been good minded.
Yes, I knew Precipitation and Pallido Blu CF were full brothers by Palladio – congratulations on breeding both of them! Did you get a chance to see the March/April 2011 issue of Warmbloods Today magazine? It had an article I wrote about the basics of breeding for pinto (tobiano) and dilutes, and featured three pintos – Sempatico, Pallido Blu CF, and Precipitation. Nice stallions!
I don’t want to take this thread in the wrong direction but I was wondering if we could expand it a bit…
I am looking for a homozygous WB pinto stallion to use over a TB mare to produce a quality upper level eventer.
It is a custom foal for an Australian buyer and she wants colour, hence the stallion must be homozygous. I’m not convinced I’m going to do it but I thought I’d look around and so far I’ve found it really really hard going.
Please, no QH in the pedigree (buyer’s request).
Counterclaim at Flying Colors is ToTo, though he’s 3/4 TB making the foal 7/8 (but not necessarily a bad thing in an Eventer). He isn’t old enough to have old enough kids on the ground, but his pedigree has done a bit of Eventing and Foxhunting.
Sempatico is ToTo as well.
Chess is ToTo too but the problem is that Kerole is in New Zealand. And the Daddy of Chess was successful eventing up to the Bundeschampionate. Chess is also versatile to be successful in eventing but he is at a vet clinic to be able to ship semen and to freeze semen so no competition possible this year.
Just as an update: Fuhler is absolutely the SWEETEST stallion ever! He is absolutely gorgeous and just a total sweetheart! I don’t think I have yet to meet a stallion that was that kind and calm.
The SO had a couple foals who were beautiful, one of them was absolutely stunning in color and conformation.
So my final choice is Fuhler! I can’t wait!
I’m SO jealous!!! Great choice!
