Pinworms- fenbendazole vs pyrantel

My horses have pinworms and not even Quest Plus has made a difference. Suggestions on treatment? Double dose pyrantel or fenbendazole powepack? Or would it be better to single dose the fenbendazole, and spread out the treatment over a few weeks?

i had hoped the quest plus would take care of it but apparently not.

I had one horse with pinworms and a single dose of fenbendazole did the trick. Are you giving them the entire tube? I usually give a tad more than appropriate for their weight to be on the safe side.

I had a horse that I strongly suspected had pinworms. He had been given ivermectin right before I bought him. I PowerPacked him the first month I owned him and he was still rubbing his tail. I tried topicals with no success. I had 2 tubes of slightly expired Ivermectin - 3 months outdated. I rubbed it under his dock, in and around his anus. 30 days later I used the second tube the same way.
No more tail rubbing.
I think I had read that suggestion on COTH at one point.
You can normally get the generic plain ivermectin pretty cheaply.

Totally forgot about this. I’ve also heard ivermectin applied this way can get rid of pinworms.

Sometimes, it needs double doses of pyrante pamoate every 2 weeks for 3-6 treatments, if you’ve got a particularly gnarly colony to deal with.

Topical applications of ivermectin weekly won’t hurt, and will likely help, possibly a lot, as well.
