PJ Pro Saddles

Does anyone own or have experience with PJ Pro saddles? Do they run small for the rider? How does the 4A flap measure? Thanks in advance.

New PJs? Or the older ones still made by Delgrange?

Somewhat new. When they were called PJ Pro and not PJ Partition.

I think the Pros were still made by Delgrange but correct me if I’m wrong.

I’ve ridden multiple times in a PJ Pro Delgrange. Seat runs average. Love, love, love those saddles and am in fact in the process of trying to sell my Antares to switch it over to a PJ Pro as they are more generous in the gullet for higher withered horses.

I do not believe Delgrange is making any of the PJ saddles anymore. Hasn’t for quite some time.

Do you know when they stopped?

Pierre Jolicoeur and Bruno Delgrange went separate ways sometime after 2008. If the saddle does not specifically say “by Bruno Delgrange” on it then it is not a Bruno and was made by PJ’s new operations which are Argentinian based as opposed to French based. I’ve tried all three (PJ by Bruno, PJ, and Bruno). A PJ is nowhere close to the saddle that a Bruno or PJ by Bruno is. An older “PJ by Bruno Delgrange” is still a great saddle. I would have bought one of the older ones but unfoetunatey they tend to have straighter flaps that I needed.

This. I bought a Bruno Delgrange Athena at the end of 2009 and the relationship was ending/over at that time. I bought a used PJ Delgrange Lite in 2013 that looks almost exactly like my Athena except for the straighter flap. It is stamped PJ Delgrange. We have a few of the newer PJs in the barn and while nice saddles, they are not the same quality as when the relationship was intact and they are also stamped differently.

OP: if you know the off the shelf PJ Pro will work for you, perhaps look for a used Bruno Delgrange Virtuoso or even the Partition. The design is still similar enough…but you will most likely end up with a better quality saddle

FWIW - I looked on an online used high-end saddles site and looked for a Virtuoso because that is the PJ style. I found a gently used original PJ under that search. Snatched it up.
