Plain Table Salt plus Electrolytes

I’ve been feeding plain table salt to my guys, 1-2 tbsp daily in their feed.

I picked up some electrolytes over the weekend I’d like to add to their rations. I see that the electrolytes have a high salt content.

I’m wondering if I should reduce the amount of plain table salt I’m feeding since the electrolytes also have salt. What do you guys do?

I’m in FL. Me and the horsies are sweating regardless of workload or lack thereof.

A vet told me they don’t like giving electrolytes routinely, however they highly recommended daily salt. The reason they didn’t recommend them daily is that if your horse started having issues, there was nothing else to add to help. They felt normal management should take care of the horse except in times of stress. I live in Houston so very similar climate (hot plus humid) to Florida.

One of my horses has anhidrosis, electrolytes are part of his management. Previously I’ve used a supplement that had electrolytes included, this year we are trying something else so he needs the electrolytes given separately.

The other horse (thankfully I only have two!) is older and it’s been recommended to give him electrolytes too.

So here I am wondering if I should reduce the plain salt if I’m adding salt via the electrolytes. I can ask my vet though! Good idea.
