Plastic Blanket Bags

What are good uses for the plastic storage bags? I’m talking about the (seemingly) nice plastic bags that new turnout blanket would come in (has a zipper to open/close, some have a handle, etc.). I have several of these bags now that I don’t want to toss out as I think I might find a use for them…yet they are currently sitting in a pile because I can’t figure out what to do with them!

I already have plastic boxes for my blankets to go into for storage (because there is no way I can ever refold the blanket perfectly enough to put it back into the plastic bag it came in LOL).

Any suggestions?

I’ve used them to store household blankets, quilts and pillows, and also light weight horse rugs like woollens and cottons etc. You could also use them for things like saddle blankets, or anything fabric. Because they don’t have a firm structure they’re not great for a lot of the common horse related stuff that you accumulate though

I have a few that I’ve used, but I do end up getting rid of most of them.

I’ve seen people use them as mini greenhouses for starting seed. Not enough airflow for me to do that but works for some.

I had a largish collection of smaller but similar bags from sheets, comforters, etc that similarly seemed like they should be useful and I finally put them on Freecycle when it was the best way to give small stuff away (I assume Facebook has taken over that, too?). They were taken by someone who had some sort of team or group uniforms to store.

I use them to store saddle pads and wraps, as well as blankets. I would actually happily take a few more as I have a couple loose blankets that I’d rather put in bags, but don’t want to give up my saddle pad storage. :grinning:

Yup yup! I keep each set of shipping quilts and wraps in the size of blanket bag that originally held a lighter sheet. Grab and go, nothing unrolling all over the place!

This is what I use mine for too - a set of 4 standing wraps and no bows fits perfectly and they are clean and ready to go, easy to find when I need them and I can just grab the bag and bring it to the stall/crossties/etc.

I ship things I sell in them, blankets, saddle pads, etc. Also use them to carry dirty barn laundry lol

I use them to store folded up tarps and dog crate pads, in addition to blankets.

I use several to store soft, seasonal decor inside. Also, seldom used linens. Another holds the random strap goods I can’t let go.

After washing my blankets at the end of the season, I fold them and zip them into the bags they came in until the next winter.

I’ve been trying to be more organized and minimal with my horsie stuff and I like using the smaller bags from sheets. My seasonal stuff used to be scattered everywhere in my at-home trunk; now the bags hold groups of things: fly masks/bonnets/boots, shedding tools (including face masks for me!), my winter clothing accessories like ear bands, neck gators, toe warmers, etc. Now I just pull out a bag depending on what I need, everything in it is visible and contained and clean.

This is exactly what I do- the pillows and wraps fit perfectly, like the bag was made for that. I like it better than the wrap racks bc they stay much cleaner (no shaving, dust, dirt, etc).
