Platinum CJ vc. SmartCombo Ultra?

After reading a lot of reviews, I was pretty much sold on Platinum Performance CJ. Then I saw this comparison chart and now can’t seem to argue with the SmartPaks? Any thoughts? Anyone use the SmartCombo Ultra?

I had my 15 yr old on SmartCombo Ultra for quite a while over the last few years. It’s good. I just couldn’t justify paying that much for some stuff he really didn’t need. Plus, when you have more than one horse, it makes you really think about what is needed vs. what sounds good. It is a good supplement and I like that it’s cheaper than PP and pellets, not powder.

I do use SP though, and appreciate that anything I purchase at any time ships free because my SPs are more than $40. Plus they have other perks. I’ve tried many a supplement methods out there and always came back to SP.

I too like that Smartpak are pellets and not powder. But I feel like there must be a reason PPCJ is a powder and not pellets? I mean, it’s so popular and so many use it - I just wonder how much is ingested with it being a powder?

Pellets are probably better more readily eaten. Powered supplements endup on bottom of feed pan uneaten. My horse will not eat powdered supplements doesn’t matter how there mixed in.

I’m not feeding any supplements to younger horse. 33 going to be 34 years old gets msm. He’s on tc senior and alfalfa hay. Done supplements and really saw absolutely no change so stopped buying them.

I’d be inclined to feed a good quality feed and see how horse does after 30 or so days on it. Chances are you’ll not need any supplements.

it’s called good marketing skills to make one think horse’s need whats being advertised.

My mare is on the SP Combo Ultra and I think it does really well for her. I took her off of it for about a year and then put her back on. I can tell a difference. She is a 11 yr old TB. I think it does a really good job helping with any tummy issues, and joints. Her coat & hooves had a huge noticeable difference!
She has a good feed plan that hasn’t changed in the time she went on and off the supplement.

@PamB - what are you feeding that is so lacking in nutrients that she needs a $3/day supplement? Why these specific supplements? Not being critical, but that’s a lot of money to spend and maybe you can get where you want to go a little cheaper.

There’s a lot more in the Platinum CJ than what’s on that comparison chart. I don’t know how current it is, either, but Platinum does offer a colic coverage program. I use their foundation Wellness formula and I quite like it.

Not an opinion on either supplement, but in doing comparisons in anything, I always print off the analysis pages and compare side by side that way. I don’t put it past any company to skew things in their favor.

I’m also considering a joint supplement for my guy with stifle issues. Exceed 6-way is another I am considering, along with the Santa Cruz Wellness/joint.

If PP was more affordable my guy would be on all PP supplements. He is 17 and has multiple issues but right now the only PP supp I could justify was the hoof one. I don’t think the comparison on the ultra and the CJ is correct either. My vet has only recommended the vitamin E from SP and I know everyone is different in their beliefs but I side with her on most everything, I had mine on the ultra most expensive SP joint supplement and saw nothing and then after pulling him off everything but hoof and probiotic. Then added adequan he has really come back so well. SP does offer the trial on all their brand supplements if you want to give that a go I think PP offers some sort of warranty as well.

Good luck it’s so hard to choose and I don’t know if this was any help but I hope it was!

Exceed 6-way is really good. Pellets and more affordable than the SP or the PP.

UltraCruz Wellness/Joint care offers all the benefits of Platinum CJ, with the addition of chondroitin (which CJ doesn’t have). It is available in a pellets format, so no worries about waste.

The UltraCruz W/J is also a fraction of the cost of Platinum. If you are interested in a sample, please PM me. I’d be happy to send one out.
