Please assist with Stallion choice for this Contendro I mare! Maybe Stakkato?

Few months ago I purchased a lovely mare Calinda by Contendro I out of Santa Baby by Simply Spruce Meadows from a breeder here in Europe. She’s turning 4 very soon and while I have thoroughly enjoyed working with this great-minded horse under the saddle, obviously with the exercises so far being light and playful, I thought we could dedicate this light work year to breeding her. Especially since the riding convinced me that I desperately want her foals

Her pedigree is:

The mare is still very much in physical development. She now is 170 cm tall and since October she has grown at least 1 cm a month and she certainly doesn’t seem to be done growing. She looks a bit skinny for my liking but all the nourishment we put in her seems to be going into the height!

While still in Germany Calinda was successful at the free jumping championships in Verden where she became 4th. At the Mare Performance Test she received 9.5 for technique and 10.0 for capacity in jumping. After a short time in training under the rider she received scores between 7.0 and 7,5 for her basic gaits and her rideability.

She has a fantastic work ethic and is incredibly sweet. She is a very brave girl, rarely ever spooks. And if she’s out on a paddock with the others and something interesting like a big truck with a trailer passes, the others run away from the perceived danger while she runs towards it to check it out! She is super comfortable to ride, has a large stride and so far no fear of the little jumps we’ve done under the saddle. Her neck is set a bit low and so far she’s carried it rather low under the saddle. Despite her rather fragile look, she is incredibly strong, full of energy and vitality.

Here is a video from about two months ago, first jumps so lots of little issues still but please try to focus on the horse  the photos are from last summer:

I’m breeding for myself, 130/140 cm level (and who knows, if I breed the right horse, maybe higher one day  ). The stallion I’m considering for her is Stakkato. I would love to add some muscle and elasticity to this (so far) boney frame. Conformation-wise I see a lot of her dam side in her, very little Contendro… I am very open to suggestions, especially since the colic stories relating to Stakkato and his offspring scare me off a bit…

Please, send me your stallion recommendations for this mare!

I also like Stolzenberg, I understand he is more typey than Stakkato, but is that too much of Sandro in the resulting pedigree? And is this much Sandro a bad thing?

I would very much appreciate some input as I’m running out of time and can’t make my mind up

Lovely mare

I don’t really have any stallion input for you… but your mare is just lovely! I’d take one like her in my barn any day!

Thank you, Cinnybren <blushing> I do adore her and that’s why it’s so important that I find her the right partner!

Lovely mare indeed. I agree Stolzenburg is a good idea. Also, you might look at Stakkato Gold - prettier than his dad.
In NA Couer D’Amour at High Point Hanoverians is gorgeous - but close up on Contender perhaps.

What a lovely mare. I have a grandson of Stakkato (sire is Spruce’s Salito) and have not had any issues with colic at all). If mine is typical of what Stakkato produces his gates are lovely and elastic and he’s been an easy easy horse to ride and train…huge Stakkato fan here!

Diarado

Many thanks for your inputs! I’m leaning towards Stolzenberg now, I’ll look into Stakkato Gold as well - I think one of the two sons might be the right choice!

Cindy, I love Diarado! I’m expecting a Diarado baby to arrive in the coming days from my Goodman - Ramiro - Gotthard mare  I have a 4-year-old stallion from this mare by Lordanos and he’s truly amazing - actually, the suggestion to use Lordanos at the time came from posters on this forum, that’s why I value the opinions very much!

There is a Lordanos son in the Canadian Hanoverian Society Stallion Service Auction now - Lokomotion. He’s been competing and winning in both dressage and jumping. Quite impressive!

I’m not sure whether this is relevant to the OP since she is overseas, but I wanted to add that I saw this stallion last April and was really impressed by him. Pictures do not do him justice; he is very modern in type and the offspring I saw on the farm are carbon copies of him! He has competed to 1.40 m jumpers and a few years ago was being ridden at FEI junior level by the owner’s daughter, so is not only versatile but possesses a great temperament and rideability!

It’s certainly very interesting for me to see how Lordanos offspring are doing in other parts of the world. Here’s our young stallion, preparing for the Young Horse Championships this year: http://youtu.be/hsh5BZFWLoc

Superb rideability, very fast learner with an incredible mind… MUCH EASIER to deal with than any of our mares

But with baby Lordanos and baby Diarado (any day now :D) in our barn already, I’m longing for a baby or grand baby of Stakkato! I’m thinking Stolzenberg would be the best match for the mare I described above as I keep hearing he’s definitely an improved version of his sire. I like Stalypso but it’s too much Calypso II in the resulting pedigree…

I’ve decided to use Stolzenberg this year, please keep you fingers crossed

Here’s my Stolzenberg baby, born yesterday - he’s so gorgeous

Very nice!

Gorgeous boy! So cute and love it when they are all leg and still figuring out how to work those legs.
