Please bring back the PM function! I have been trying to PM some people and there is no way to do that anymore. I click on the person’s name, as before, but the “Private Message” button disappears almost as soon as it appears, and the one time I managed to click it before it disappeared, it still didn’t take me to a page where I could write a PM.
Sometimes people prefer PMs to forum posts, so please bring back this function!
As far as I’ve been able to find, the only way to send a PM is to start a new message in the PM tab and type in the recipient’s username manually, or to click the little speech bubble next to their name on one of their forum posts, but doing so makes the subjectline of the PM “chat about [insert name of thread the post was on here]” and it doesn’t give any way to change it.
Am I missing something?
That’s the problem – there is no PM tab anymore. I see the quote icon by the user’s name, but it doesn’t say what it’s for or how it works. I saw something that said “New Message” but if you type something, it then says POST, and I don’t want to POST the message, because it’s a PM. If wanted to post a message I would post it in a thread. I want to SEND a PM, not POST it.
I tried to post my question in the FAQs thread but you can’t post questions there. What good is a FAQs thread if we can’t post questions on it?
the speech bubble next to the username IS the message button. The quote button is now quotation marks at the bottom left corner of the post. On the desktop version, at least. I haven’t fiddled much with the mobile page.
@RPM There are two ways to send a private message to another user.
Click on the quote bubble next to their username by their post in a thread. That will start a private conversation between you and the other user, which will also be accessible via your Message Center. The conversations are threaded, so all the posts back and forth between the two of you will stay in that conversation. It will start off with a subject line re: whatever thread title you initiated the conversation from, but it will all be private.
Click on Messages to the left of your username at the top of the screen. From the drop-down menu, you can select Send a New Message, which will take you directly to where you can compose a private message, or you can choose Message Center, which will let you go to your inbox and select a previous private message thread/conversation to comment on, start a new message/conversation, etc.
We keep the FAQs for quick reference answers, so users don’t have to dig through a whole thread for information. This Help forum is intended for questions like yours.

Well my mobile view is same as desktop view,there is no private message icon on either.
Oh, I guess it’s just the narrow window desktop view. I think it pops over around 700 pixels wide.
PM does not work. I figured out a way to send a PM but then no one can answer my PM. I have to cut and paste a name off the thread then go to messages to send PM and yes its says post which actually does not post it to the thread but then why does ot say post. This site needs fixing!!!
This new web site is very poorly designed.
COTH you did not get your money worth , make them fix it. Did someone’s kid do this this updated site for free?
Moderator , I appreciate your attempt to teach people how to PM but its ridiculous(not your fault ) to have to go through all that nonsense just to send a PM . I hate that the forum is going to fail because the new site is so cumbersome , the old one was simple to use.

I just tried that little blank tab by your name and all I got is an “invalid post” error?
Well, seems that the PM did go thru anyway and I have a response, thank you!
For those that can’t PM, do give that blank tab by the name a try and post on the bottom of that PM window, just as you do in a thread.
It worked for me this time, even if I had an error message when posting it, which could be because I may have clicked on “post” twice?
Tried again and still working just fine, even better than the old one, give it a try!
