Please restore the ignore function.

Thanks. I’ll just keep deleting if the messages continue.

evidently the “glitch” isn’t in the software the vendor uses as it appears that none of the requests/complaints reach their death ears or maybe they are blind and their system doesn’t translate the word ignore in braille

they got their money and what’s the problem??

Sigh… the money vBulletin received was for a license (legal permission) to run their software. The license does not state that all bugs will be fixed.

I worked for software vendors for the majority of my career. Realities…

  • Bugs don't have to be fixed.
  • Software releases ship with known bugs.
  • Bugs may or may not be fixed based on difficulty to fix, need to fix, cost to fix, priority, impact on customers.
  • Generally all a customer/user knows is that the vendor is now aware of a problem. If/when it will get fixed will be notified usually in the release that fixes it.
Software that could cause major customer impact (such as opening the door for security breeches or data loss/corruption, etc) do get fixed and as quickly as possible including testing to make sure the fix isn't worse than the original problem. Things like the ignore... not signifiant impact to the customer (COTH, not us) (well other than our complaining to COTH about ignore not working)... bug fixes are balanced all the time without the customer/end user knowing anything about what is going in.

Just for giggles, I signed up for the vBulletin help forums. It runs on the same platform we use.

Ignore doesn’t work there, either.

And here’s another thread about it:

And this one:

And this one:

This is not just OUR issue.

@clanter do you want it fixed?? Sign up for the forum over there and VOTE FOR IT on the trouble tracker:

http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-17030

It has 15 votes. I added mine just now to make that 16. THIS is how we let them know it’s a problem. Bitching about this here on our forum doesn’t help.

I continue to see a conversation that I have not participated in, taking place in my PM.

Now the person is freaking out (at someone else) with foul language and I’d rather not see any of it. I can’t figure out how to stop this. It’s not showing up in the “Inbox” it’s just there when I look at notifications. I was able to put it in the “trash” before, I can’t find a way to delete it now or remember how I “trashed” it. It’s quite possible that it is an easy fix and that my ignorance (computer-wise) is shining through once again.

I’ll ask the moderator for help with the language at least. Maybe she’ll reply here in case anyone else has this problem.

Hey skydy–you should be able to delete without opening the message by going to the inbox in your message center, selecting the messages and clicking delete. You can get to the message center by clicking on “messages” in the top bar (next to notifications) and then clicking on “go to message center” at the bottom of the list that pops up. I hope that helps!
