Please tell me I do not need a pony - updated Jan 2024

P-O-N-E-E-E!!!

Can I tell you, OP, how much I like your riding in the pictures? You are looking for the next jump(s). So many hunter riders (or, at least, in the photographs I see) are looking DOWN at the jumps they are going over. I was taught to look for the next jump (gazillion years ago), and I am happy to see that you do, too. :encouragement:

Keep the pony. Just pretend you’re in the UK - everybody rides ponies there. Actually, the way things are going, everyone’s going to be riding ponies here, too.

Those are great pics! Congrats!

She is adorable, and clearly having a blast bombing around! Keeping her is the right idea  At any rate, the more miles she gets with your skilled piloting the more value she has later on as a lease or sale. Seems like she could be the kind of critter a Pony Club kid would die to lease if she maxes out later on and you want to more on with another horse.

Or maybe she will be the 13.2 pony who goes CCI. Who knows?

LOL, I can’t imagine! It’s so funny how BN/Novice jumps look SOOOO much bigger from only 13.2 hands up. I’m always like, “Wait, are you sure that’s not a Prelim jump?”

Maybe the reason I’ve been good about looking for the next jump is that if I get to the base and actually look at the one we’re about to jump I’ll chicken out.

She stinks! Hate her! I’ll take her off your hands for nothing. JK of course. Keep her!!!

I’d buy that pony off you in a heartbeat, except my granddaughter is going to be 5ft8 soon. (I’m 5ft6. I could keep her!)

That pony is wonderful in everything she does. Please keep the pictures coming!

Okay, as hesitant as I am about posting a riding video on here, I think I’ve made you guys wait long enough! I’m hoping the adorableness of the pony will keep anyone from looking at the rider. Here is the superpony in a jumping lesson yesterday:

https://youtu.be/WfERKzq9CGE

BTW, the bobble in front of the liverpool wasn’t her being looky because she doesn’t do that ever. That was me forgetting I was supposed to jump it until we were 3 strides out, and her going for it anyway.

I asked DH to take the video to send to someone who might know a potential buyer, but she is so frickin cute and fun and easy to have around that I’m reluctant to actually send it. I’d really like to enjoy some more horse trials this spring and summer before I start advertising. If the right person came along in the meantime though, I think I’d let her go. I suck at resale projects…

You need to just get over the idea that she’s too small. You look great on her and the two of you are a fantastic team. Just keep on having fun and KEEP HER!

Well isn’t she the cutest damn pony on the planet. You are both looking good. I do think you appear a smidge tall looking on her, but you still look absolutely fine and like a great pair. Both of you look comfortable and she looks like a blast. Can’t wait to see more of your progress together.

OMG I love her! You guys look great together! You do a really nice job staying tall and not leaning forward, which can be so hard on the little ones.

You two remind me of me and my mare who’s about 14.3. I have a big warmblood that’s retired now that could do big jumps and won a lot at shows. But let me tell you, it’s been so nice to have a low-key horse that I can just plain have fun with. Trail ride? No problem. Chasing a loose cow around the property? Let’s go! I even took her to a medieval Renaissance fair practice and joined the jousting practice. I hit a quintain while holding a huuuuge lance on her back, and she didn’t care at all! My warmblood would have lost his mind several times over!

Keep having fun with your girl and keep the updates coming!

PS I have a sneaking suspicion that neither of our mares are going anywhere

When the thread title started out “Please tell me I do not need a pony” and the addition is “JUMPING VIDEO post 99”. Can we tag “fail” on that, in the best way ???

Page 5 says it all – the helpful advice is “keep the pony !!!”

Why on earth was this pony ever for sale? And why did her ad make her sound green? She’s amazing! The only possible reason to sell her is that, IMO, she should go for a lot of money. But who needs money when they can have a pony like this?

Definitely keep her and do some competitions. You both will have fun and a show record can only increase her price.

My guy is 13.3hh and jumps do look huge from that height. I joke around that I say we have a 6" handicap when jumping, so a 2’6 jump on the pony is like 3’ on a normal sized horse.

OMG wow, she is so cute and does look an awful lot like mine! They even have the same big glamorous forelock! Honestly if you showed me that pic and told me it was my pony, I’d totally believe you. It’s a shame we’re at opposite ends of the country or we could do an adorable bay pony mare pas de deux. Have fun with her!!! Maybe you need your own superstar pony thread so we can all stay up to date.
