Plus size riders, rejoice with me!

If you are bigger than a 36 in breeches you know the struggle is real. I was starting to doubt the existence of a full seat breech that was cute, stylish, comfortable, high-waisted, good quality and available in a size 38.

Yes I have tons of Kerrits tights but I do like real breeches, with buttons and zippers. Thought I’d like Irideon but don’t like the microcord fabric. Hated the Fuller Fillies I’ve tried. Haven’t been happy with the quality and fit of Elation or Tuffrider. Can’t get Pipers in Canada and have heard dubious things about the fit anyway. So far the only ones that come close to meeting my requirements (well except the cute and stylish part) are the FITS Free-Flex.

But then (cue the choir of angels singing) I went to a show this weekend and a store I’d never heard of called Encore Equestrian had a trailer.

Inside this magical place were adorable breeches in denim, with subtle hints of bling and a super high waist that…came in my size! Not only did they come in my size but she actually had them in stock, in the trailer! Even better, she also had a 50% off rack where I found a pair of the softest, stretchiest white show breeches with elastic ankle and grey full seat and they were COMFY! Did I mention how uncomfy my current show breeches are?

Turns out these unicorns of the breech world are a brand called HKM. Some quick Googling tells me they have tons of other cute styles. Maybe I’m late to the party and you all already know this, but I haven’t seen this line in other Canadian stores so thought I’d share with my friends who feel my breech hunting pain

Encore Equestrian is in my area, so a place I frequent. I have several pairs of HKM breeches, which double as casual wear. Encore usually has a booth at the Royal.

Glad you found something you like Mama…I agree with you on the other brands, but have had good luck with Kerrits in various styles including cross-overs.

sorry doublepost

Glad you found them and yes HKM is a very nice brand. They have all kind of nice things http://www.hkm-sportsequipment.eu/artikel.php?lang=en

Any US source? It’s so frustrating to have to squeeze into 36s. Slightly larger is sooo much more comfy and flattering. I’d prefer, traditional not full seat breeches. TIA

Quite a bit on eBay shipping from the U.S. so they must be available there.

Not a plus size, but I have HKM boots for schooling that are nice quality and hard wearing, I like their stuff.

Thanks for the tip, large sizes AND in Canada, bonus!

Can you tell us which model you got? I ordered a pair of their denim breeches from the UK… and there is NO WAY they were high waisted nor the size they were marked. Very sad.

Look for HKM Georgia USA on FB. She is the HKM rep in our area and a lovely person.

The denim ones are the Blink model. And actually now that I’ve worn them a couple of times, I probably could have gone with the size 36, which is unheard of for me

Also make sure you are converting the UK size to the U.S. size if ordering from overseas - they are not the same

HKM breeches’ sizes run very large. I bought a EU 44 size (UK 30) at a show, advised by the shop owner, as I am a 46 (UK 32). And back home I found that I should bought a 42 (a 28!!!). So it is always advisable to ask them if they can give you the real measures of the breeches (waist, length and so on). I’ve done it several times and I’ve found the staff is really nice and helpful (HKM Europe, I mean).

Yeah… that is the one I ordered, and they are marked the correct US size and they are about 4 sizes smaller and no way are high rise, even in the incorrect size.

They are gorgeous, what do they actually measure?

Did they send the correct style? That seems really odd.

I would disagree that these run large. I have a number of breeches from the cavallino marino line and they are on the small side of the size they are marked (US30)

Oh yeah… they are the correct ones. I was very sad. Got them last fall actually. I’d be curious what the measurements are as well… in PM if you’d rather. Maybe it was just an incorrectly marked pair.

I’d be happy to measure mine - just tell me what you want to know besides the waist circumference

The rise from crotch to back and the hip and thigh would be nice. That would tell me if the pair I got were oddities or not. Thank you!!!
