I just got a quote for $3000 to put together a pole barn kit, (24x36 and just poles and roof) and was wondering if this seems a bit high? The kit is probably going to be close to the same price. I’m in the deep south if that helps.
thirty years ago I paid a contractor to put up the same size structure… posts/roofing … they supplied all materials/labor…cost was $2,000
That doesn’t sound high at all, but always good to get multiple estimates. $3-5/sq ft is a good rough estimate for budgeting purposes for installation labor. Tacking on the siding is the quickest / least skilled part of the job, so I would not be surprised if leaving that off the scope doesn’t save you a whole lot.
That your kit is inexpensive may speak more about the kit quality–types of wood, gauge of metal, etc. – than the contractor’s value.
Sounds about right to me
Yeah, I’ve emailed another company to get another estimate just in case. Contractor seems to know what he’s doing, pole barn company is dragging their feet and on getting me an estimate although I’ve seen estimates for similarly sized buildings so I can ball park it. I may keep the builder and go with a different kit company if this keeps happening. I was hoping I could do the girts and siding myself later, right now I just need somewhere to park my tractor.
That’s right in the ballpark, maybe even a little lower, for what we’d expect to pay for something like that.
Eeek!:eek::eek: Unless the kit was engineered to be an open-sided structure, definitely do not delay installing the sidewalls. All that weight of the roof is not designed to be perched up there on tall sticks without the sidewalls to tie it all together.
*At least make sure your contractor knows this plan. S/he can maybe add reinforcements where needed to keep the structure square while it waits for its walls.
This is similar to what I’m doing. Trusses are engineered for 10ft spacing, but will be spaced 9 ft due to the dimensions I want. I just don’t know if I’m going to enclose all or part of it or just do half walls and keep it more airy. Still deciding. I’m sure I have a lot more questions to ask the kit maker before I finalize anything.
