Hi all,
Well I’m still working on our new horse blog and saddlery. I’m in the process of developing our product line and would be interested in feed back from horse owners on what products they like the best or those that are unique or hard to find. Also, I’ve continued to develop the blog and now have several articles available but for authors out there I’m still publishing so drop me a message. All feed back is welcome and very much appreciated.
Thanks
Jill

In regards to what products work best, does duct tape and WD 40 count?
I am yet again reminded of the wonders of duct tape. My 3 year old filly got an abrasion on the point of her hip that was getting larger rather than healing because she knocked the scab off every time she got up or layed down. Duct tape makes the perfect horsey band-aid
I recently purchase a Nunn Finer Piaffe girth and really like it a lot.
If this is not an exclusive dressage endeavor, you might carry chamois cloths. Also, string girths in short sizes that would fit a 14’2" horse.
It takes a lot for a product to really impress me, but a few months ago I used one that totally blew me out of the water. Sore-No-More makes a bunch of great stuff, but I used their poultice on a horse with a minor tendon tweak. The horse was so incredibly crippled he could not turn to the right. Two weeks of careful care, icing and wrapping at night with Sore No More poultice and the ultrasounds were perfectly clear, and the horse was back to work. I’ve never had a turnaround that fast with any other poultice.
I am the biggest fan of Finish Line Products! I used their U7 powder for daily digestion and their liquid when traveling, along with the apple a day, because you use less, it costs less, and my picky TB’s love it. At a large 3-day, they came around giving out decent sized samples (not just for a day, but try 2 weeks +!). I told them what a fan I am of their products, so they came back with an armful of stuff for me to try! Now, I use their hoof supplements–“Feet First” that has actually made noticable improvements in my gelding’s feet! I also can’t say enough about their poltices, since they can be used over minor cuts and abrasions!
However, my biggest “YEAH” with Finish Line was a supplement called Thia-Cal. It’s a liquid that is great for those hotter or A.D.D horses. It doesn’t calm, but helps them focus on work to get the most out of your training. It doesn’t test and get this… It’s cheap! I know, cheap is not something we normally hear with horses! At about $20 a gallon, which lasts my upper level gelding about 2-3 months when competing, it’s the best “calmer” I’ve ever run into… PLUS… it doesn’t test! Because of my success on it (Finish Line GUARANTEES it will work or your money back!) All the hot TB’s and WB’s in our area are now using it with success. I have yet to see it not work on any horse.
So, my vote is for any and all Finish Line Products!
Also, any Nunn Finer (the main manufacture of Bit of Britain) is a great company. They’re carried in some of the higher quality small tack stores as a less expensive alternative to other pricey bridles, girths, etc… however, the quality is tough to beat and John Nunn is a wonderful person to boot!
Good luck!

Have you tried the Gordon Horse and Pony Spray? That is the only stuff I found that works for a whole ride! lol. Its oil based… so its best used on a darker horse, as it brings dirt to the surface of the fur after the horse starts to sweat a little, but it works well!
Edited to add: It even improves other sprays to just add some of the Gordon spray to it as a dilution.
Oh, also, F.I.T.S. riding breeches are amazing
and if you can get it, Horka riding gear is awesome. If you get Horka, let me know. I havent found it in the states yet!

I’ve never heard of it! Will have to look - but bad news, I’ve got horses with a lot of white…

yep, my guy is mostly white too. Its not so bad if you just add a little bit of it to another fly spray or mix up some sort of homemade spray and add this stuff to it. But I don’t do a lot of showing… and he turns colours when he sweats anyways. lol. so I deal with it and it keeps most flies off of him.

I’ll look into the Horka and F.I.T.S. and will update with any info I find. I’ve been looking into fly sprays and would like to carry one organic that is good for sensitive skin horses - ideas?
thanks for the great responses!

Smart Choice by Cut Heal, all natural, cuts grooming time in thirds,- lets you avoid bathing even the grubbiest horse, and none of the hair coating stuff thats in so many shine products, We use it religiously and daily since they gave us a demo at Equine Affaire when it came out last year., And its not expensive!
The worst part is you have to wash your brushes every week because they get so dirty.
Rowndup Gate Latches
I bought one of these gate latches when they first came out. I LOVE THEM. I point it out to everyone that comes here - what an ingenious idea!!
I don’t know if its organic or not, but Marigold Spray and the Absorbine Supershield Green are good for sensitive-skinned horses, from my experience with my chestnut mare… her hair would fall out with other sprays!
One of the best things I’ve found recently is http://www.horsetackreview.com/article-display/1743.html. Work great on whiskers and ears and I think I paid $1.99.
