poll - best horse products?

Mare Magic

All of the Equispa products are all-natural and very good.
I know a couple have been reviewed in The Horse Journal pretty favorably.
I always have a bottle of “Cool Muscle Wash” and the barn for the horse and another at home for me (though sometimes I share the horse’s after a hard ride so I don’t get too stiff!). Also a big user of the “Peppermint Summer Protection” fly/mosquito spray – the trick with that is to remember to brush it in so it gets to the skin, not just the hair. The coat refresher is a good spot cleaner. And everyone in the barn loves how it smells when I use them!

My favorites:

Hands down the best “gadget” I’ve ever bought. I will never ride without these again:

So light, so long, so effective!

A girth even the cinchiest horse can (usually) stand:

Some items I love that can be hard to find:

Sliding side reins and/or Vienna reins

Good quality saddles for WIDE & EXTRA WIDE horses

I would also LOVE to find a lightweight QUALITY leather lunge caveson that doesn’t set me back several hundred dollars.

Muck Itch spray for the summer crusties. Oil based, but REALLY works, unlike ALL of the others I (and my trainer and others in the barn) have tried. It’s made somewhere in FLorida…

Hay

Things I’ve bought in the past month:
-Tri-Tec fly spray
-Probios probiotic
-Epona’s gummy
-Can’t have enough brushes…just can’t…
-Show sheen
-Excalibur weener cleaner

Paul Mitchell’s Special Tea Tree Shampoo & the conditioner too.
It works wonders on dander dried out tails. Brings them back to life. Contains a combination of tea tree oil and peppermint create a cooling tingle and smells so good. Great for manes and the whole body. Sorta like a linament in a shampoo. You only use a small amount so it is worth the high price.

Also Static Guard - For use on horses that produce a lot of static in there winter blankets.

I really love Glanzen 3 This stuff is the bomb! Nothing else like it

another poll question

Wow guys the response has been amazing and eye opening. I’m currently looking into all of the suggestions and will post as I add to our products especially those suggested by this post. Really appreciate all the responses as it has given me many great suggestions. I’m currently adding to our leathers and have gotten in a shipment of crystal brow bands and some nice Starter English Saddles if anyone is looking ;0 http://sensationsporthorses.com/browbands.htm
So next question - What makes you keep going back to that one online tack shop? Suggestions?
Thanks again
Jill

Furminator?

Oh just thought of another question. Has anyone used the Equine Furminator? I’m considering adding it to the site as the dog product is great.
thanks
jill

Yep! I have a furry pony and a not-furry big guy who both adore it. The big guy doesn’t get that dopey eyed, drugged out look for anything else!

It was much cheaper on e-bay though.

Equus Marigold Spray. I’m not sure if it’s “organic” but I belive it’s “all natural.” It’s the only all natural fly spray I’ve seen actually work. I use Pyrhana on my guys b/c I think it works the best, but a friend of mine has a SUPER sensitive horse who can’t stand any chemical fly sprays. She uses the Equus and it actually works really well.

Also, one thing I always have trouble finding is a nice dressage girth in a 24" or 22". (I have a small Arab.) I lucked out and found a shearling-lined one on Tack of the Day recently, but until then, I had a heck of a time finding a nice one that small. Though I realize most dressage horses are not as small as mine and therefore the market is not as good for those sizes.

Sorry, probably not what the OP was hoping for, but I have a guy who takes a 20" girth, and lucked out here-

if you are ever in need again

Absorbine liniment. It is the thing to take the itch out when horses are rubbing their tail heads. And a general antiseptic for just about everything else. I tried it on a mosquito bite and a wasp sting for myself and it really took out the sting and itch, though don’t know if it’s toxic to humans! I know it has some acetone in it, but so does nail polish remover…

Cut Heal Products. They work.

I would love a source for quality, oversized leather halters that don’t cost a fortune (or may be do, but are worth it).

Vetrolin liniment for body washes. The horses seem to feel better after they get a bath with diluted vetrolin.

I have a stainless steel hoof pick that is the only one I care to use anymore. Heaven help me if I lose it, because I don’t remember where it came from.

Hello all,
Just wanted to thank everyone for their feedback - it is great! I’ve been exploring all your suggestions have have added Cut Heal products (love them) and several others. I’ve also redone the look and feel of the web site so would appreciate any feedback on that as well - suggestions?
thanks much,

All Things Horse & Hound

Products I like:

Equissentials breeches
4-way jointed stirrups (I have Sprengers)
Anky saddle in Wide (Buffalo leather is wonderful!!)
Bobby’s Bridles (the leather is fantastic, very soft)
Myler bits – especially the comfort snaffle
Thinline saddle pads
A soft, flexible, round curry comb with a knob handle in the middle of the flat, round part (hard to explain, sorry)
Those thick, merino wool socks for winter
Spraymaster spray bottle

On your website – good rule of thumb: the fewer clicks needed, the better. So, having no enter page is a good idea, open directly on your site instead.

Uptite Poultice - haven’t found any better though I’m tempted to try Sore No More…
Sore No More “The Sauce” - THE BEST STUFF EVER FOR TB FEET!

Equi-Spa products - especially the Cool Muscle Wash
Quiessance, Grand-Hoof Pellets, and Accel Lifetime
Rubber Grooming Mitts
hoofpicks with brushes and an end that fits in the hole of my grooming tote (enough with the cute "horse head ends already!)

and I’m now a fan of HorseQuench - GREAT STUFF!

Non-Horse Specific:
Suave Aloe Vera Shampoo
Skin-So-Soft original bath oil

Becky & the boys

Products I absolutely love:

Arc de Triomphe calfskin reins
Equus Eventa Reins
Stubben products - ALL!
Products with Tea Tree Oil
Vetrolin Shampoo and Shiner
Absorbine detangler and shiner (the oil)
Thinline stuff!
Cactus fly spray concentrate (absoloutely awesome stuff! - organic too and works on those with skin issues).

and PS - what makes a GREAT online store to me is:

  • Great Customer service (answers phones/emails and is friendly and knowledgeable about products)
  • Having stuff in stock and shipped quickly

more products and questions

Wow, you guys have given me a ton of ideas to work with! Glad to hear you like Cut Heal - I’ve also used the Hoof Heal and it works great. I’ve already ordered Cut Heal in but I’m also considering starting a Cowboy Magic Line - suggestions? Also has anyone used the Paddock Cakes Horse Treats? They look great and we’ll give them a try as well. What about leather lines? Any particular product for saddlery?
thanks all
Jill

Can I suggest that you give better product descriptions? I REALLY like to see what the ingredients are in any grooming product or first aid concoction. If I can’t read the ingredients, I generally won’t buy it. JMHO.

Having the item in stock and shipping it promptly.

One item that is hard to find is an extra long browband. 17 inch is considered oversize, and I like them even longer. Browbands on regular horse size bridles are too short imo and cause the bridle to push into the ears.

So true. Sigh.
