Thanks for sharing!
That was fun to re-watch!
Little ponies, Big sticks :encouragement:
Those ponies are something else! Glad I caught that!

I’ve been watching some of the cross-country and it is absolutely breathtaking.
Could someone kindly answer some (possibly dumb) questions:
–Are pony heights the same in Europe as in the U.S. – i.e., all these ponies are 14.2 and under?
–What is the max height of the obstacles?
–Is there a max age for the riders?
–When I looked up a few of the ponies, most of them seem to be horse breeds, not pony breeds–I saw Selle Francais, ISH, Holsteiner… so are these warmbloods that only grew to pony height? Or they are purpose-bred to be ponies? If someone could comment on the breeding of these creatures, it would be appreciated.
Thanks for any insights!
Ponies are supposed to be 148 but there is some allowance when measured at a competition of a couple of extra cm … can be contentious ðŸ˜
height wise its a full up 2* (new money) with kids up to 16
Breeding wise you will find a mixture
Purpose bred sports ponies from various studbooks, ponies from various studbooks that just didn’t make the height and ‘regular ponies’ who just proved themselves awesome. Plenty of Tb, Arab, warmblood influence but you will also find British/Irish native breeds filtering in e.g. Welsh, Connemara, New Forest. Indeed the Germans use a lot of Welsh in their sports pony breeding program.

Finn Healy of GBR was the individual eventing winner… wasn’t he the kid who went viral a few years ago for being a bitty little thing jumping massive fences?
Some of the WB registries have pony sub-books, and they often have other breeds, especially Welsh, crossed in. There is something called a “German Riding Pony” but I don’t know where they get registered. I know someone who has one. He’s 1/4 Arab, 5/8 Welsh, and 1/8 WB, and a fancy little creature, red chestnut with a lot of bling, and the most exquisite head. I think he’s around 14 hands. He looks more like a small horse than a pony, but is naughty like many ponies can be.
I googled and found this video, which I remember seeing at the time 7 years ago:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P15rSdEzLhs
But I could have sworn there was also footage of him at his parents’ yard jumping full-sized horses over very large fences when he was not much bigger than in the video above. Although since I can’t find it now, I’m thinking I may have my talented kid riders confused.
Super Pony came from Monbeg Sport Horses in Ireland as a 3yo.

His video application for a bursary.
Thanks to everyone who provided information. I’m just blown away by those ponies (and their kid riders!)
Nah, I saw that one, too, when searching his name. What I remember seeing at the time was more candid footage of him (or whoever it was) schooling at home, jumping over hedges, gates, and other jumps in fields IIRC. I think it was in the form of a Facebook video or similar with no identifying info, but the rider’s name came out in the discussion in the comments. I’m pretty sure there was a discussion on COTH, too. Although my inability to track down any of this on the internet is making me wonder if any of it ever happened.
My favorite was a tiny 12-yr-old Irish girl named Tiggy Hancock on a chunky gray (presumably Connemara) pony. Looks like her sister previously competed the pony. On the xc video, she’s in at about the 46:00 mark, and on the sj video, she’s the first to go. (Videos are on FEI Eventing FB page.)
