Ponies, wine, and shiny objects :)

So I’m pretty sure BF is going to propose. On a horse. In a vineyard.

Clearly the man is a genius, because ponies + wine = yes. (caveat: we’ve been together for 7+ years, which is why I sometimes refer to him as DH, and he is my best friend and an amazing person and I love him and want to spend the rest of my life with him. So ponies + wine is not the ONLY reason I will say yes.)

A few days ago I accidentally stumbled upon an order confirmation receipt for an engagement ring. It was stashed among our jointly stored financial documents and I was looking for my tax stuff, so no I was not snooping. Commence happy, excited, nervous, freak-out.

Then, the only-been-on-a-horse-once-in-his-life BF and I are talking about a trip up to Sonoma in two weeks and he suggests a horseback vineyard tour at Chalk Hill Winery. I’m stoked.

Has anyone been on this tour before? It is my understanding that the guide has typical trail horses and retired polo ponies and you get assigned a beastie based on experience level. Some of the reviews indicate that the guide can be a bit aggressive when determining your riding level. I don’t care what I ride so long as future Mr. mdblz is comfortable, so this shouldn’t be an issue.

Also, what do I wear?! This seems like a silly thing to be worried about, but if there’s pictures I want to be able to look at them without cringing and I also want to be comfortable on the horse. I’m thinking skinny jeans, knock-off EIS shirt, and paddocks.

Also, any suggestions of other wineries to visit are greatly appreciated. We live in SF and head up to Southern Sonoma once a month ish, but rarely go up to the North part. We are wine club members at Sebastiani, so we get reciprocal benefits (read: free tastings) at other Foley Family wineries like Chalk Hill, Lancaster, and Kuleto, but haven’t yet been to any of them.

Basically, I’m just really super excited, because ponies, wine, and committing myself to the most awesome man I’ve ever met.

Yayyyy!! :applause: What an exciting possibility! (also, thank you for making me insanely jealous and also for the ideas to subtly hint to DB )

I don’t think worrying about what to wear is silly at all! I think what you have planned sounds lovely. I might swap the skinny jeans for bootcuts, just because I personally hate the cut-off look that paddock boots give me, especially with pants tucked in.

If everything goes as planned, I hope you post the outcome and some ring pictures!!

Thank you NurseHorsey!

I will definitely post pics

I’m trying not to over think the outfit situation and am just really excited to see him on a horse

Clearly these are first world horse problems

bootcut jeans, white shirt, scarf thingie.

BIG FAT GRIN

…this makes me nervous - happy nervous, but nervous!

So cool!!!

This is awesome :). What a perfect proposal!

We want pictures!

So happy for you!

If I ever get to that point with someone, I hope that he involves my horse in some way :). Although I’m not holding my breath for ever getting to that point OR having it be as perfect as what you’re describing!

I’m all nervousy/excitedy for you

No suggestions, but just agreeing that ponies, wine and an outstanding man are a great combination :D. Hope you have a fabulous day and yes, we want to see pics!!!

Would it be wrong of me to print this thread and leave it on my SO’s computer? I’m sure someday he’ll come up with a lovely proposal, but somehow I’m doubting it will involve riding at a vineyard.

How awesome for you! Post pics!

And worrying what to wear is not silly at all. You’re going to want pictures, and everyone wants to look good in their pictures!

Thanks everyone!

I am happy nervous too!

Gray Horse - you have my full permission

I mean, its not like I’ve been doing premature research and discovered that the winery in question has a GORGEOUS indoor arena that they rent out for events, like weddings…

…loving this - don’t forget to keep us posted in your delirium. (Old romantic here).

I know I’ve been off the board forever, but…

Chalk Hill Winery is absolutely stunning! The horseback tour is pretty low key, but the arena, barn, and winery are beautiful. Riding through the vineyards is an incredibly special and unique experience. I absolutely recommend it

Lovely pics ( can’t see last pic though). You two looks super happy! Congrats !

It’s the WEDDING KISS! I guess things went well with the vineyard proposal.

Aww! Congrats!!! Lovely pictures too.

Congratulations! Your dress was absolutely gorgeous!

And that indoor! I bet he could’ve used that to propose instead of a ring and you still would have said yes

Thanks everyone!

I would have gladly accepted that arena as my “ring.” On the non mirrored end is the viewing room, complete with space for 100 people and full restaurant kitchen  And the footing, oh sweet lord the footing! The barn is just up the hill from the arena, and equally as beautiful
