So I’m pretty sure BF is going to propose. On a horse. In a vineyard.
Clearly the man is a genius, because ponies + wine = yes. (caveat: we’ve been together for 7+ years, which is why I sometimes refer to him as DH, and he is my best friend and an amazing person and I love him and want to spend the rest of my life with him. So ponies + wine is not the ONLY reason I will say yes.)
A few days ago I accidentally stumbled upon an order confirmation receipt for an engagement ring. It was stashed among our jointly stored financial documents and I was looking for my tax stuff, so no I was not snooping. Commence happy, excited, nervous, freak-out.
Then, the only-been-on-a-horse-once-in-his-life BF and I are talking about a trip up to Sonoma in two weeks and he suggests a horseback vineyard tour at Chalk Hill Winery. I’m stoked.
Has anyone been on this tour before? It is my understanding that the guide has typical trail horses and retired polo ponies and you get assigned a beastie based on experience level. Some of the reviews indicate that the guide can be a bit aggressive when determining your riding level. I don’t care what I ride so long as future Mr. mdblz is comfortable, so this shouldn’t be an issue.
Also, what do I wear?! This seems like a silly thing to be worried about, but if there’s pictures I want to be able to look at them without cringing and I also want to be comfortable on the horse. I’m thinking skinny jeans, knock-off EIS shirt, and paddocks.
Also, any suggestions of other wineries to visit are greatly appreciated. We live in SF and head up to Southern Sonoma once a month ish, but rarely go up to the North part. We are wine club members at Sebastiani, so we get reciprocal benefits (read: free tastings) at other Foley Family wineries like Chalk Hill, Lancaster, and Kuleto, but haven’t yet been to any of them.
Basically, I’m just really super excited, because ponies, wine, and committing myself to the most awesome man I’ve ever met.
