I ride a non-stocky 14.2 pony and we are dabbling in a little eventing. I think she needs a breastplate and I do sometimes jump her in a running martingale, so running martingale (removable) attachment is a must too. Will a Cob fit her? Does anyone have experience to share with fitting a pony with a breastplate? A lot of pony tack appears to be geared towards hunters.
I also have a petite 14.2 pony, who is too big for pony sizes and too small for cob. I also use a breast plate with a running martingale attachment. I couldn’t find a normal cob-sized breastplate that I could adjust down small enough (even with punching extra holes–I’d run into a buckle or double-layered leather) so I ended up with a cheap 5-point. I’d prefer to have fewer straps to deal with, but the way they double back meant I could punch as many holes and adjust it as small as I needed.
My 14.3 guy (who wears a 72 blanket) fits pretty well into the cob size from Lund Saddlery. If anything I could probably have gone horse size to give him more room in the shoulders as it’s tight-ish around his beefy pony neck.
My TB/Welsh large pony wore an elastic Amigo breastplate in pony size: https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/579032_3195380282937_1652075107_n.jpg?oh=51f0a97d1bf74ac43d135ce04da820e8&oe=59304E13
Unfortunately I looked for a link and it appears it has been discontinued. Just for Ponies has a couple options: http://justforponies.com/search.php?search_query=Breastplate . I would also recommend looking at UK tack shops for pony sized items.
I’ve adjusted the Nunn Finer hunting breastplate in cob size down to fit a ~14 hand pony easily. Shires also has a couple of pony size options. Both offer running attachments.
I agree with the Nunn Finer suggestion. My 14.2 pony has fit in all their styles of cob quite well. She also fits in a CWD size 1. The separate Nunn Finer running martingale also runs quite small and easily fit her while using a separate breastplate.
