Alright everyone, I’m looking for some guidance. I have two young ponies who are super fancy and super sweet, which I’m planning to show at WEC Ocala this winter season (December-March ish). One will be schooling around and maybe doing the 2’ or children’s ponies, and another will go into his green year. Gone down to Wellington for the previous two years (trying Ocala for a change!) so am aware of costs and have a few recs from friends, but just wanted to see what I could get here from my trusty COTH friends.
So, who are some good pony people in Ocala that go to WEC? The biggest thing for me is that they MUST also have a barn offsite where I can take my ponies to be turned out or have a break week. I am done with the “no turnout” situation and don’t want them living only at the show for those months.
TYIA!
Not sure if they will be there when you are but check with Winterview Farm (out of MS) and their trainer Brittany Short.
Who is being trained here: the ponies alone (so the farm needs to come with a good pony jock who can show them) or the ponies and their existing child? And if the latter, how experienced is the kid? The most gifted trainer I’ve ever worked with is down there now but does best with kids who have an existing foundation.
Pam Baker does Ocala for the winter but she does HITS, not WEC. She has had many ponies in her program and does hunters better than most but might not fit your bill for WEC! Worth mentioning, though!
Shadow Ridge/Sam Schaefer also does WEC normally and they have property in Ocala. Top dollar program, though, but produces some top ponies.
The ponies, and they have an existing pony jockey who is very talented that’ll ride them.
I’m watching this thread because I have a super fancy pony that is now outgrown and needs to be with someone
Molly Kenney at Barking Dog Farm. Gorgeous property hacking distance to HITS and she travels back and forth to WEC all season.
Skye Gravois . She’s on fb I can’t find her number , I’m sorry
I’ll put in another vote for the Schaefers
Shadow Ridge- Sam Schaefer and Stacy Weiss
Bibby Farmer Hill works out of Kyle and Kathy Dewar’s farm Chestnut Hill I think it’s called.
Shadow ridge is in MD during warmer months (they have a beautiful a farm in Ocala as well) and Chestnut Hill is year round ocala.
Bibby, for sure. The Dewar kids also do ponies, so lots of kids running around and potential pony jocks, should you be an ammy needing a pony pilot for shows.
I used Bibby Hill for all my riders when in Ocala.
