Pony's first jumping session!

I’m sure all y’all are sick of me and my “Pony’s first xxxxx!” posts, but I can’t help myself, she’s so cute! :stuck_out_tongue:

I was supposed to go with the pony to my friend’s ranch today, but it is going to be too hot to trailer down and ride in the middle of the day. So what better way to spend my morning’s ride than by jumping my pony for the first time?

Just about everything I’ve done with her I’ve done solo. First ride on her I was alone, first trail ride I was alone, and now for the first jumping session I was alone. Sometimes I just get a bee in my bonnet that today is a good day to try something new and so I just do it. Thankfully, Princess Fancy Pants, aka Pony, is a wonderful pony and perfect amateur’s horse in that she doesn’t try any funny business. Mr. PoPo was away at a bike race today, so why the heck not?:cool:

I went about setting up poles and standards out in my trails out back. I picked a nice flat spot that has some trees on either side and that has good footing. I set up two trot poles, then a space for a take-off stride, then a ground pole between two standards. We walked and trotted through it a couple times. Then I put up one pole for half a cross rail and trotted over that twice. Then I put up the other pole for a little cross rail and trotted that twice. She was perfect so I called it on that and we went and picked up rocks that I spotted on other parts of the trail.

Of course in between everything you see on the video we were walking, trotting, and cantering, but I’m sure that 45 minutes of nothing interspersed with two minutes of pole work/jumping wouldn’t make for a very fun video!

Good thing I didn’t do it on the back trail that border’s my neighbors’ property. They were out there playing soccer with their kids and that might have been too much for a first-time jumping session!

She is so pretty, growing up into a Princess, as you call her.

She was watching, but didn’t seem ever worried, you both did great!

That is one CUTE pony!

Love the quick landing after the jump

She’s adorable!

Nicely done! I love your pony.

I LOVE your pony too LOL. Not only is she the spittin’ image of Daddy but she’s got his personality to a “T”. He loves to jump and prefers it to dressage, poor boy. Her dam won me more than a few awards with fences involved…so, it’s in the cards for her. Great job BTW. I’m so happy your have her. THANK YOU!

Thanks, everyone! I’m quite taken with her, as is everyone who meets her.

Good to know about her daddy’s love of jumping, exvet…she really likes our rides in the jump saddle and didn’t bat an eye, wiggle, or hesitate in any way today…just nice and forward and happy!

She is too stinkin’ cute!

I noticed that you set up in the shadow of the tree, which made your grid hard to see on video, but my eyesight is really going. Who is her daddy?

No, no, no I never get tired of your updates. Keep 'em coming! It’s fun and encouraging to others, I’m sure, to hear a DIYer putter and come up w/ ideas to start a greenie. I’m sure exvet loves hearing about it too.
Great job you’re doing BTW.

I belong to this forum because if posts like this!
Loved your happy giggle when she jumped, it is priceless to have a horse you enjoy like that…and she is soooo cute!
You guys look like a great team!

Pal![]( Beach, her sire is a welsh cob stallion I owned and now my daughter owns (though he lives with me). Here is a picture of his first attempt at jumping at a show. He’s a bit of an overachiever LOL.

Her dam is a morgan x welsh cob mare who also could jump the moon.

Love it! I am just wondering what is the noise in the back ground? It sounds like a plane .

Yup, a plane. I don’t really notice them while I’m out riding, but it is very noticeable on the video! There are a lot of hobbyists who fly around here.

exvet, I clicked through that picture to see more, and Mr. PoPo is sitting next to me and he commented on how much Pony looks like her daddy and how beautiful he is. They have the matching star and snip! He really is stunning!

“Pony” looks just like him!

Wonderful horses those, neat to see the quality coming thru the generations.

So cute! She looks so proud of herself after each time!! LOVE!

Thank you. He does seem to stamp his get. When she was born we all just gasped because she really is his spittin’ image and is “so him”. In fact my daughter and I crack up when we see her in your pictures and videos because they are so much alike and truth be told we call him ‘princess’ too LOL.

My daughter was just commenting yesterday on how her brother is starting to look so much like PFP in the face/head now that he’s a long two year old.

Bluey, PFP is the fourth generation. It started back when I bought a purebred welsh cob mare a couple of decades or so ago. Tamara of TN and I got together, she with stallion and me with two very nice purebred mares, one of which I did a foal share lease with her. The stallion I have here is actually that mare’s grandson. He has bloodlines that are almost died out/lost which is a shame considering how nice and easy he has been and it would appear his daughter (as his other get) is too.

 Daddy is a showstopper.

If they can make one of him in a 16+hh package, I’ll take one!

Nice thick neck, perfect proportions, gorgeous color!

Have you ever bred him to anything big?

No, not anyone over 14.1 hands. PFP is pretty representative of what he produces. I’ve stuck pretty much to breeding type to type and being only 5’2" I haven’t bred anything with the intention of it going over 15 hands. PFP was going to be my daughter’s but life being what it is, she ended up with her sire instead. I think everyone is happy with the end of the story. I know I’m thrilled that Pocket Pony liked her, Annwylid D’Lite aka PFP, enough to buy her.
