poor Russian dude

first he has an epically bad test in dressage with the worst score of the competition.
then, he’s doing pretty decent cross country and the rider before him has a nasty fall, and he gets stopped on course.
with his luck a rabid racoon is going to be in one of the stadium jumps.

poor guy.

I watched it on Equidia.fr

Poor guy. And the French commentators were quite…interresting; they were funny but not really nice. (They are quite harsh with everyone actually!)

I love Equidia…, were you in France or don’t they have geographical restrictions?

I’m in Québec. No restriction to live and replay coverage! Just have to download the ‘silverlight’ free player. Ones using Mozilla or Firefox seemed to have problems, so I use Explorer and not much problems.

If you understand french, you’ll laugh! They are mean!

I felt so bad for him during his dressage test then saw he got held on course and felt even worse. I hope he has a nice stadium round tomorrow at least. He’s rocking the 'stache look though so he’s got that going for him.

The BBC commenters were not his fans, at all. They talked during his dressage about what it took just to qualify for the Olympics and said that his ride was not Olympic-worthy.

In the replay, there was a close up of some spur usage that caused the horse’s flesh to really ripple and distort.

And then when he was about to go around cross country, the BBC commenters were also talking about the placement of grease on the horse’s chest and how it was too high and was going to inhibit the horses’s ability to cool itself.

The picture painted by the BBC was one of a poor horseman.

I did notice that some of the horses had waaaay more grease than others. Since I’m not an eventer, I didn’t know why that was the case. Interesting to learn that too much can impede cooling. I don’t think that was a huge factor in London yesterday, as the temps if anything have been on the cool side there, but still good to know.

I don’t know how Russian Dude did XC or in stadium - will have to check. You know there are always some Olympians on horseback who have no business being there! I especially have cringed PLENTY watching showjumping in the past, for sure.

Are there any links to his dressage ride? I didn’t get to see it.

Yes, that is a pity.

No rabies or raccoons in England as far as I know, unless one stowed away in one of the planes. A crotchety hedgehog, possibly. Hopefully not an adder.

I am sorry he has had such a bad time of it. I am old enough that it is a pleasure nowadays to see Russia competing in any Olympics, in any sport, as “Russia” and I probably have a rather romantic view of Russian horsemen in general based on Cossacks.
Let’s jingle for his SJ phase, 'K?

Eventing is over

http://www.nbcolympics.com/equestrian/event/eventing-individual/index.html

Looks like he finished, but came in last. Picked up a number of penalties in the jump round - have’t had a chance to watch the replays yet - not sure what they were.

But he DID finish! There are 21 riders who can’t say the same!

His showjumping was a bit of a disaster really! Poles were not tapped or knocked, they were flung  but I’ve become a bit of a fan of Fabiy! (who incidentally is by a horse called Fart  )

Me TOO! Who doesn’t love a horse by Fart?

And really - the horse was impersonating a giraffe, but he was pretty obedient. I’ve seen worse dressage. And I’ve ridden worse, too.

I can’t find his ride on the replay of the dressage

He pretty much plowed over every.single.jump on the course in the jumping phase. His poor horse looked so very tired and down trodden.

Is there a link to his test anywhere? What day did he ride on? I’m trying to back track on the footage and find him but can’t, and I’d really like to see an 80 test!

Day one in the afternoon I think.

Still no links to his dressage ride? Bummer…
