Popular Foxhunting Sires?

Can anyone point me to current, popular Foxhunting Sires (if they exist)?

Searching on this forum I saw IdleHour and Irish Sport Horse suggestions from 2009. I just wanted to see if there were any additional sires that were currently popular.

I know this belongs on the Sport Horse Breeding, but I wasn’t sure if there were many fox hunters on there.

Thank you!

I wasn’t aware that there were too many specifically advertised fox hunting sires although I guess the ISH and RIDs are the closest. Most of what I see in the hunt field is OTTBs, Draft crosses, QH crosses and Paints with a sprinkling of warmbloods. What you breed depends on what you personally like but I think most fox hunters were bred for another use or for multi-purpose use like eventing or show hunters.

My two favorites are Box Car out of Oklahoma and Tractor Trailer out of Canada:winkgrin:

Add Wyoming to the geography!

Seriously, I agree w/gypsymare, Ireland seems to breed more for the ‘hunting type.’ There just isn’t enough of a market in the US for a breeder to stand a sire particularly for foxhunters. I’ve know OTTBs, TB crosses, quarter horses and many others with many good sires in their backgrounds. You can look to the lines that produce good jumpers like Bonne Nuit- but that is just one of many variables that go into a good hunting horse.

lol, mine is out of Ireland, by Boat

Concerto Grosso

The Holsteiner stallion, Concerto Grosso, has produced some wonderful foxhunting horses. He stands for a reasonable price and his semen ships well. He is owned by foxhunters who also event.

By Ran Too Slow out of Penn National?

Hey, I had a full brother to Ran Too
Slow out of Penn National and he was the BEST whip’s horse!

I once hunted a full sister to Jay Trump, and she was fabulous.

Edited to add- if memory serves, Jay Trump was Ran Too Slow out of Charles Town.
