Portable Camping Sink For Tack Room

I love having a sink in the feed/tack room. However, I have no plumbing in my barn. The only hydrant is outside the back door, opposite end of the barn from the feed/tack room, and wedged behind a fence post which makes it awkward to use. I mean, when you need to use the hose to fill a trough or buckets, it’s fine, but a pain in the butt when you just want to rinse off something quick.

So I’ve been scoping out temporary options and found these:

I know I’ve used them at festivals, etc. but really can’t remember any particulars about them. The price is not bad, but at nearly $100, I don’t really want to buy it and have it not work in the barn.

It would mainly be used for washing hands, cleaning tack, getting small amounts of water for every day purposes. I figure I can let it drain into a 5 gallon bucket.

Any experiences?

I have a RinseKit, with the heater option, which is nice because it is pressurized and you can heat the water if you want. I also take it to horse shows to hose off the horse or myself.

Can fill it in your house and just take it with you. Easy.

just do not fill the sink to capacity as its water capacity is just over 5 gallons (19 liters is just over 5 gallons)

would it freeze?

@soloudinhere That looks interesting. I’ll keep it in mind, but I’d really like a traditional sink.

@clanter Thanks… not super concerned about the potential for 0.1 L overflow on the floor; I wouldn’t be using that much water at once. I have the same questions about freezing; I expect in the worst of weather it would, which is why I was hoping to find someone with firsthand experiences with it or anything similar. I use less water in the winter months when everything is frozen, so it wouldn’t be a problem to pack it away.

I just looked at it. On the surface it looks good until I read the dimensions. You’re going to get a backache using it

It’s just a little over knee high

I would go with a utility sink like pictured above, hooked to the hose for cold water and another hose draining through the wall to the outside. Then, if you want counter space on either side, but a laminated counter top from Lowes and add legs or cabinetry below.

@Bluey Wow what a generous offer! Thank you for your kindness, although I would hate to see shipping on that!

@Horseman15 I think that is the height of the package, before assembly. Another place in the description, it says it is 40" tall.

Re: other replies about installing a utility basin sink. In my OP, I mentioned the hydrant is outside, at the opposite end of the barn from the tack/feed area, and located behind an awkwardly placed fence post. I already considered a basin sink hooked to a hose, which I’ve done many times in the past, but it won’t work for this situation for a myriad of reasons. I want something actually in the barn and near the tack/feed room. But thank you!

Have you considered these pressurized camping rinse kits? https://kialoa.com/products/rinsekit-plus?variant=9388661538860&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3ebdBRC1ARIsAD8U0V4rZjvk5M818PdtG8E-1mlBzUA6hdatbyQgQyL9lwEGYIxZMzn2iLwaAqmjEALw_wcB

Otherwise, I do not see the problem. Around here water lines are invariably PVC, easy to work with. If yours is galvanized or otherwise not easy to work with, put a hose splitter on the faucet. Use one side to run a water line from the hydrant to the outside wall of the tack room, go through the wall, install sink with drain out through wall if necessary. You will have to run a line to the tack room anyway. Or, enter the barn at the hydrant, go up into the rafters and across the space then down into the tack room.
If you use something self contained, you will STILL have to fill it with water regularly.
