Portable Heater in LQ Horse Trailer

My LQ horse trailer (new to me) has an A/C with a heater but the heater is more for taking chill off of the air and not really heating entire LQ (which is very small). I live in the deep south so I should not have to deal with extreme cold for extended periods of time. I was thinking of getting a small ceramic electric heater to help warm up the trailer in the mornings.

Anyone done this? Pros or cons?

Yes, routinely.

Get a small, “cube” type heater (or equivalent) at Walmar/Target/Ace or whatever. Use it with the same precautions you would use at home.

G.

I use one, it’s slightly larger than one of the small ceramic heaters, but I convert my 8x21’ BP to my LQ (it has a power package and breaker box up in the carriage storage area (no separate dressing room, just stud doors between the back and front, plus it is mostly insulated) so it is a fairly large area and I thought it could use more than a tiny desktop type heater. I also added a dehumidifier this year because my sneaking suspicion was the dampness wasn’t helping keep the trailer warm enough based on the few times I used it last winter.

I was in FL about 2 weeks ago and it got rather nippy so it was a good test. Fri night was rain, rain, rain and then a cold front came in Sat. Friday night I was super comfy in my cot+lightweight sleeping bag. Cool enough to sleep, not so cold I was uncomfortable. Saturday I got a bit chilled in the wee hours. Uh, the explanation for this was apparently I forgot to close the back window, so I did my part to heat the Florida Horse Park. Still, it was a LOT warmer in the trailer than when I stepped outside, so I think it will do just fine this winter. And the humidifier picked up a lot of moisture in 48+ hours so I think it was a good addition.

Yes, we use one as well. We have a late show here in Ontario (November) and we can get below freezing temps, which is not good for water lines!

So though we use our furnace in the LQ, we also run a ceramic heater to keep the gooseneck area (our bedroom) warm. It does the trick for sure!

I have a small cube heater that I set on the floor in the cooler months. I open the cabinet doors and prop the fold out sofa up a little bit.

I also keep a small dehumidifier in mine year round. I empty it once a week (I walk past the LQ on my walk from my house to my barn). Its on a 12on/12off timer. That has made a world of difference in keeping the lq smelling fresh ( I’m in humid Alabama)

I have a straight load with a 4 foot wall, we insulated most of it ourselves. I use a small ceramic heater, it ran all night but I was toasty warm when temps dropped into the 20s. Not that I’d ever do that again!

I have one for my LQ bathroom. Works great. I got it from Walmart for $20 right after Christmas.
