Possible seizure or ? I'm stumped

Yesterday morning my barn owner phoned saying my horse had some kind of seizure or something. She heard banging and thinking she was cast and came running. Horse had her nose shoved through the stall bars that were close together instead of through the larger space where she can stick her head out. She was freaking out and pushing against the stall wall and banging her head against the bars. BO couldn’t get her to respond like she had checked out. She finally backs up and drops her head and after a few seconds was like nothing happened and was looking for breakfast. She was unhurt except for a slightly swollen above her eye and some knocked off hair, thank dog. BO said the whole thing took about 10 seconds.
This has never happened before and hope it never happens again, just really strange and not sure what to make of it. Any ideas?

It could have been a mild seizure or something else neurological. I would be inclined to call and discuss what your BO witnessed with your vet. I’d be especially inclined there’s a chance it could be symptomatic of a breed-related genetic disease that hasn’t previously been tested for (ie. HYPP in Quarter Horses).

I would be headed to the nearest vet school hospital. Is it EPM? Rabies? A tumor? Seizures can be dangerous for the people near the horse as the horse has no control over her behavior during the seizure.

Yeah, this. I’d also consider that an urgent get the horse seen asap situation vs a wait and see situation. I hope you are able to have the horse evaluated soon.
