*Possible* Shivers in a purchase prospect

Ok I had a TB gelding competed him to the Intermediate level. Sold him to a gal who took him to Young Riders despite the purchasers vet mentioned the shivers. He lives to be 22 and had a nice retirement. My own vet was flabbergasted this horse passed a vet check…So. Might do the job you want. Might not. Pretty much the same as any other horse,

its not the slight arthritic changes that would prevent me from buying him if he is “of that age and experience” so to speak. But potentially shivers? Nope. That would do it for me.
There are nice horses out that. Keep looking.

OP, I don’t envy your decision. I’ve lived w a couple of horses w shivers. One was easy enough, the other took out owner’s kneecap when she wasn’t paying attention. I personally wouldn’t want to own one, but we can’t help who we fall in love with. I’d be curious if the horse is currently on natural vitamin E. That may give you a clue as to whether seller knows something. Fingers crossed for you.

Just to throw this in-all vets aren’t good vets. I worked at a clinic where one of the vets, honestly ,I think had a screw loose. She killed more dogs and would indeed try to convince owners to put their pet to sleep. Small animal clinic obviously.
I say get a second vets opinion and indeed from another group.
I wouldn’t mention anything to the second vet and just see what they came up with.
Good luck!
