I usually use either Horseman’s Dream Veterinary Cream or Hay Where’s That Blue Stuff depending on the rub!

I know a lot of people haven’t had luck for various reasons, but I’ve had great success with this: https://eqyss.com/products/equine/sprays/micro-tek-equine-spray/

The only bad part now is the new hair is darker than the original hair, so she still looks patchy :).

Love this: ph wonder salve

A little goes a long ways, and I’ve used it (way) past its expiration date with no issue. It’s a clay like paste that you stir, then paint on the affected area. I have been able to add water to get it back to its original state if it has sat for awhile and hardened in the jar.

Once on the horse, it doesn’t run. That’s one of the reasons I love it, great for the summer. I’ve used it with great success on heads, legs, etc.

I first saw it at an equine affaire type event in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, I don’t see it available at many stores.

PS: Just wanted to give a heads up for those that are sensitive; if you click on the “buy now” link, some of the before and after pictures are pretty gruesome.

I have a horse that won’t regrow hair from the fainted scratch unless I put ointment on it pretty much daily (every time I get out to the barn). I’ve always used plain vaseline if it isn’t bleeding or raw. If it is, I use an antibiotic ointment until it closes over, then generally use vaseline until the hair fills in. Works well for all the minor pasture scrapes, rubs, or bug bites he gets.

A prior barn owner told me that a scab will leave a scar unless it’s removed. She was pretty ambitious about removing them. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: :confounded: I’ll gently help them along and ease a scab off a bit early if it comes off with minimal difficulty (and the horse doesn’t twitch/shift away as I’m doing it), but I won’t remove one that will leave raw or bleeding skin under it.
