In light of my clothing turnout thread, I think we all need to see the proof in the pudding.
I say we post pics, good, bad, old, new. This would give us all a chance to contrast and compare.
Thomas, you start since you were the first to agree that this was a good idea plus you probably have enough picks to make a book.
I think pics of well known drivers snagged from other sites would be okay too since they are public knowledge.

It will be next weekend before I have time to have a sort through my photos and scan them but I won’t forget.
What a timely subject! I just found four new felt hats - very nice looking ones - at a cheap dollar-type store 
Maybe if I take photos some of you more experienced folks would be willing to give me suggestions?
In the meantime, here are some of my outfits. I was driving my pony pair to a black Kutzmann Feel-X but then got my own carriage last fall. It is a dark hunter green with cream pinstriping Kutzmann Fox.

In my humble opinion, I think CDE dressage turnout is a bit of a hybrid to Turnout Pleasure Driving. should we make a distinction? or no?
Now see, I agree. CDE turnout is tough for me to judge because I have always found the space agey marathon vehicles to distract from the turnout picture. I know, I know, but Im a purist and from the moment I got into carriage driving, the marathon vehicles have always made me giggle. They remind me of futuristic Volkswagon Beetles and I think you should wear some sort of Star Trek space suit…wiat a minute, did I just give someone an idea for fancy/ costume at Walnut Hill?
Anyway, here goes, Ashemont, for what it’s worth, which ain’t much.
first pic. Like the apron color but i think the flowers in the hat are too red and poofy. need to be more tailored and I suggest a darker shirt to tie the red up front head to toe. Your groom should have on a dark pair of pants and hat. Not to embarass anyone but how cute that your groom has…hm,hhhmm…outgrown the groom’s seat!
Second pic, I like the use of accents with hats and shirt but its a little bland. maybe a third color, dark red on your hat, very discreet and a piping on your apron to tie it together?
Third pic - What is the first thing I see, your giant red hat. Poo… lovely hat, stands alone from the turnout. It just boing, boings out of the pic. Not that I don’t like the hat, but is there some way to better marry the hat to the turnout with color tie-in? Apron, piping, scarf?
On a side note, should ashemont’s forelocks be secured up so as to not be fly away? I find that detail distracting if it is not an acceptable practice, like say for Haflingers who show with all Hairs Ablazing!
And with regards to clothes, hunter braid your horse’s manes with coordinating yarn? Touchy subject for me. I like it with children’s turnouts.
I’m driving Polish Driving Ponies and according to their standard, manes are roached with forelocks free
In regards to the forelock being free or not in dressage a stallion can be shown without his forelock braided is it the same driving?
Oh isn’t it funny how breed to breed the standards of grooming are so different. My next question is this. Do you let the forelock go where it may or do you part it in the middle under the drop?
Okay here are some turnout picks -
#1 4 year old green Half Arab/ saddlebred mare - blue and black gig with cream pinstripe.
I wore two different hats. Like the smaller one better. The scarf is dark navy with floral print tieing all colors in. This is the cream military cut coat with gold buttons on cuff and cream piping trim. Navy suit pinstripe apron, friend made it and it’s way too big, folded over in the rear. Brown paddock boots, should have been black?
I agree that collar would snaz up this turnout. Oh, and my good willow whip got broken before my first class so I am using the crummy black training whip.
Lots of bad luck and adversity for me this year. Kept muddling through…
And yes I know I am leaning like I have hemorroids. Terrible habit that I was unaware of until I saw myself in film. Yikes!

#2 My arabian mare, also first show season, broke late. My friend was going to show her this season but got hurt in a marathon driving accident. So this outfit was sort of thrown together. Coat is nice colors but was way to big - moved the buttons to take up the slack but it still looks frumpy. plus I have a tiny neck, I think i needed a scarf because my neck looks like a pencil. My friends hat - was way too big for my head but the flowers matched beautifully to the hat.
And the apron was borrowed and didn’t go all the way around my tuckus - a huge pet peeve of mine. Overall, I love this mare and the road cart looks nice with her but the harness is course and my outfit is severly lacking.

O.K. I know nothing BUT I really like the overall picture of the first two photos with the creme jacket. Very classy!
Thanks Nightmoves - that outfit is definately a favorite of mine although I have been told “on paper” that cream coats “don’t show well”. Never did figure out what that meant. It sets off the cream pinstripe on the box nicely.
We have a great Salvation Army store in a fairly well-off town near me. Wednesday is half price day! The cream coat $2.50. The scarf is actually a floral prairie skirt with buttons all the way down the front. I opened up the skirt, took off the buttons and cut off the waist band, making a very long sheer scarf. I wrap it twice around my throat them stock tie it and poof it out of the collar. I bought a whole arm load of skirts to cut and sew into driving scarfs for about $5. Im so cheap…
The hat is borrowed from a great friend and trainer. It’s a navy felt mini topper with navy feather accents and a veil with tiny puff dots on it. Fit me perfect. Like it with the gig better that the black hat, which has a bigger brim. My friend got that navy hat at TJMaxx cheap. White string gloves are borrowed as is the antique dash clock for the turnout class.
Pleasure driving turnout is definately for the obsessive compulsive, isn’t it?!
:lol: All of those turnouts have gotten good scores - the judges really liked them. Guess they look better in person 
ya know what, you’re right. it’s hard to see the detail of a turnout, especially the clothes unless there is a corresponing close up of the driver.
As i said, ain’t worth much, honey…
I think it is important to either get pictures, or at least get a good distance from your outfit, to see what others are seeing. That little red stripe that is suppose to tie the hat to the whole thing, may not even be visible from where the judge is. One of my hats has a plaid hatband that is yellow, red, orange, etc. From a distance, all you see is the orange. Stay away from all black, even if you try to add a flower/hatband, whatever to brighten it up. It looks like you are going to a funeral.
The old rule of thumb is that your apron matches your upolstry, not your outfit, which is a good reason to have nutrual upolstry, not bright anything.
When you get the picture, turn it upside down and see if any piece sticks out like a sore thumb.
I’ve got a pleasure show in late Sept. Right now it is still hot, but in late Sept, I should be wearing a felt hat, not straw. Lets hope it does some serious cooling off.
what are the seasonal fashion rules.
I would really like to wear the cream outfit for Arabian Sport Horse Nationals but it will be after Labor Day. Are we still not wearing white after Labor Day? Im a horseperson. I have no sense of fashion trends. If I can’t buy at the thrift store, the tack shop or TSC, I don’t need it. Can’t remember the last time I went to the mall other than to get the Santa pictures.
Great idea about turning the photo upside down. But is it possible for a stand out piece, say like my cream coat, to be the one thing that balances the whole picture. I think a darker coat would do exactly that, FUNERAL!!
And I keep hearing comments about wearing darker brown gloves. Is the shade of your glove really that important?
And let’s talk makeup. Truefully, I hate to wear makeup at any horseshow because my face is sweating like a whore on Sunday. Anyone have sweat proof makeup they can’t live without?
Winfield–I think the first turnout looks quite lovely.
Just a couple of comments about the harness (and this is just a non-pro’s humble opinion):
If you are going all out with the formal turnout (string gloves and all that), it really is more appropriate to show in a collar (versus a breastcollar). If it’s close in a class between placings, that could certainly make a difference.
In addition (and you may have these…I can’t tell from the pics), the tugs should be either French tugs or Tilbury tugs on a gig saddle. The saddle in the pic looks a bit narrow, but it’s hard to tell from the angle. A gig saddle is pretty wide with quite a bit of padding (versus a narrower, less padded regular saddle) and includes a sliding backband.
Just a few things to add to the mix.
Along with what Kelly is saying, are the shafts a tad low? Punch a hole and bring them up, looks like too much weight on her back.
Turnout, you are a lovely lady no matter what you wear WFF; but, no white or cream jackets. Too much contrast for me.
And, most of the comments are mostly CDE drivers. The dark colors are “traditional” verses the new modern CDE turnout styles. Dressage “presentation” is not judged in the same value system Pleasure Turnout is. There is a difference. And there is a difference between UK and US Pleasure turnout.
I will post photos. I have to upload. But, I have body-weight issues to deal with that WFF will never have. WFF has a world of more options. I tried to get away from black with the dark grey, and the grey aprons(it reverses) little ugh, not comfortable with it.
What comes easy for some is really hard for me; my new mantra “don’t complain and don’t explain”…
I went with a full neck collar this season mainly because it was better for the draught on my little mule. She really worked more freely, bending better. Easier on the shoulder.
I tried a new color, medium navy blue…uhh so so.
But,my hair was hanging down from my “bun”, and I did not get her ears clipped as well as they should have been, my personal issues ect…we did not place as high as I am aiming for. But, the happiness in my heart driving her, the companionship we have, the trust driving with four-in-hands everywhere in close quarters, having Robin Groves holler over to me how much she liked little Spook. Hey, there are alot of different winning feelings that a fourth or third place ribbon hold. Ain’it true?
