Potomac Horse Center reunion

Plans are in the works for a reunion of all students, clients, working students, staff, anyone who was at the Potomac Horse Center back in it’s glory days. It is planned for this October and hopefully at PHC itself. I will post more details as I become aware of them but you can also go the FB page for PHC alumni. should be a good time!

Copper1 Wow, this brings back tons of good memories. I was last at the old PHC main barn in 1999 when I was looking for a new horse. It was run by a hunter/jumper guy at that time. It’s really built up but that stands to reason.

I don’t do Facebook so I’d love it if you could PM any details.

PS. Not sure if you knew it or not, but Marc Bowman died of lung cancer last November. :frowning: The girl that worked for him, Gabbie, emailed me that he died and nothing more. I’m not sure if the kennel is still there or what happened.

I went to PHC back in 1979. I probably won’t be able to make the reunion though I think about that place often. It’s what me interested in eventing.

I took riding lessons there with Grant Schneidman as instructor, so you KNOW that was long ago.

I think it was fall of '66 when I went down and took the AI course. I stayed on and took over running the top barn after Lockie and Jane Richards left. I think I stayed about 2+ yrs. The original farrier that was there then was Jim Burgholzer (sp?)who did rodeo’s on weekends and shod at the upper barn mainly 3 days/wk. I’d have the radio on to rock and roll music but when Jim came, it was switched to Country. After a while I stopped changing the station and have gone Country ever since. It was about the same time the Beatles came over to USA. When the Irish farrier, Mike Murphy as I remember, showed up, Jim was let go. Betty Howett and Collette Stevens were still there when I left. Several yrs later I trailered a horse I had bought down over Easter vacation to take some lessons with Collette.

Brian Ross was there but one of the last times I saw Brian, he was judging a dressage show in NY. When I saw his name in the program I wondered if it was the same person. I remember riding my first test of the day under him. When I finished my test and saluted, I asked if he was the same Brian Ross from PHC and he asked if I was the same MSJ from the upper barn? Great reunion following. I remember he was up here in western NY judging an event and that had to be probably 10 yrs ago easily.

I always had very fond memories of PHC.

Wow! Good memories here too, though I was there when it was the Maryland Horse Center. Took lessons there starting about 1985 and worked there as a teen. Many, many wonderful memories as a barn rat there. And I actually might be back east in October…
