Poulin Grains...Any Experiences With This Brand?

Love the MVP, it does great for my horses. I am trying the Carb Safe now on one of them, seems to be doing good things. No spooking, no hotness.

Picky eater didn’t like the Carb Safe pellets, and knew a couple others that didn’t as well. This horse chooses Poulin alfalfa cubes over other brands every time, and eats more of them. They appear and smell fresh and green to me in comparison. (for whatever thats worth) Carb Safe looks like great stuff, not sure why some won’t eat it, but if yours does, I would feed it!

Ditto for Poulin being a very high quality feed. Good stuff.

Love it and switched about 5 years ago. I actually prefer the Senior formula and feed it to all horses both young and old.

Useless feed…

We tried Challenger by Poulin Grain, and it was awful - horses did not gain any weight, in fact, they lost it. We decided to stick with Safe Choice brands by Nutrena, for maintenance we use Safe Choice Original.

We tested it on approximately 25 horses with different metabolisms & exercise levels, particularly TB’s, QH’s and Drafts.

It was worth spending a few extra $ to feed quality to maintain their weight. I will never buy that feed again.

Hi All-
Did a search, but came up empty handed. Looking for any experiences, good or bad, with Poulin grains. Would love to hear opinions from those that have tried it…it’s a new manufacturer for me, as I have always fed Purina, but am considering Poulin if it appears to be favorable. Thanks.[/QUOTE]

Our whole barn gets Poulin grains and Forage Extender and I swear by it. My gelding gets the Senior and I’m really happy with it. It was carefully chosen and I feel like it has everything he needs… We’ve got all types and a barn full of healthy, gleaming beauties to show for it. When my barnmate moved, she got her new barn to change over too. I like the brand and would recommend it to anyone.

I know this is an old thread but I am very sorry to hear that. Our horses all get Poulin feed and they have never looked better… and this is after trying everything… Blue Seal, Purina Ultium, SafeChoice, Sentinel LS… FWIW, my gelding used to need over 10qt of Sentinel just to MAINTAIN weight… he now only gets 4 qts of Poulin FibreMax and is looking good. It’s always my first go-to feed company.

I’ve never tried Challenger (I believe it’s their budget line?) but I love, love, love the regular Poulin grain products. They’re not cheap, but they’re worth every penny.

I feed Carb-Safe to a rescued mini who now looks like a million bucks, and Fiber Max to a very hard keeper who’s never looked so good in his life. (FM really is a kick-ass weight-building feed; I just wish I’d found it sooner.)

At various times I’ve fed MVP, E-Tec and Equi-Pro, and they’ve all proven very useful.

I like Poulin because they’re local-ish (Vermont), because they’re a family business, and because they have a specialized feed for pretty much every purpose and preference.

Awesome company.

It’s their “economy” line, and 30+% NSC so I’m not really surprised you didn’t care for it.

Their EquiPro line is fabulous and comparably quite low in NSC. They have a great variety to choose from as well.

I also feed MVP to my easy keepers, and E-Tec when they need some additional calories without the sugars.

I realize this is an old thread but I would also like to mention…

Poulin recently came out with an additional Senior that is called EquiPro E-Tec Senior Low Carb and for those of you who love TC Senior, but want something a little less expensive, check it out. It’s $17 a bag at my local Poulin dealer and is VERY similar to the TC Senior.
