I may have finally found a horse! Does anyone have any suggestions for a good PPE vet for a 2 yo horse?
What x-rays do you suggest I have done as a minimum on a young horse? I need this horse to be sound! I have a very low tolerance for risk this time around. I was thinking at least neck, hocks, and front hooves? Maybe I should be more through so I will sleep better at night?
Kentucky Equine Hospital…few minutes from Shelbyville. https://kentuckyequinehospital.com/
I have two young horses there in training…I’ve used Dr. Mason, Dr. Grigoleit, and their newest vet, Dr. Klein (depending on who was available or on call). All of them have been excellent!!
I have also used Dr. Hopper at Rood and Riddle in Lexington to do PPEs (before I had experience using KEH for routine care)…he was also excellent. But now that I know a few of the KEH vets, I would not hesitate to use them for a PPE.
With the xrays…if you don’t do a full set of surveys, it sounds like you will question yourself…but xrays never guarantee a sound horse anyway. I did hocks, stifles, feet with mine. The last one I did neck and back (as they had already done the rest, and based on her conformation, I wanted neck).
Thank you!
