Several of the videos are “currently unavailable.” The only ones that would play were the old one w/the Friesian w/the chains/not-chains, and two new ones of him riding a chestnut (very poorly, I might add).
For anyone questioning the ‘don’t cross the reins over the withers’ rule that dressage trainers have been drumming into riders head forever - just google use of indirect rein of opposition behind the withers and it’s use in the half pass. Please, please, please, do not cross the plain of the withers ever, for any reason.

I really don’t think there are chains there. You can hear the same shhhht-shhhht noise when the nice grey is going around, and it clearly is NOT wearing anything other than regular boots. It’s got to be something with their footing. Those horses are all such triers, who have obviously been well-cared for, so I can only imagine how nicely they’d be with correct instruction.
That is it, I am telling my trainer that Nick said I am supposed to cross my hand over the withers (something I do wrong way too often), she clearly is mistaken that I am wrong about it.

I am going to repeat what JenEM said above. If you watch the other horse going in the same ring with the sound on you will hear that same noise. It is clearly the footing in that ring.
These people may be willing to take a clinic from an unknown that says he is a trainer, hold that against them if you want, but their horse keeping does not deserve the ridicule and implication that they are using stuff like chains.
In our defense, when that was the only video we had in that arena and he had something shiny on his legs, it really DID seem like chains.

Good Lawd Almighty! I managed to bleed through a couple of the clinic videos, I stopped when my eyes literally fell out of my head and bounced off the dog.
Nick Peronace schooling Half Pass. This horse is 20 something years old, and hasn’t performed such movements in years. The viewer should take this into consideration.
What a ridiculous and uneducated thing to say. So the horse is old and out of shape, so let’s, oh, I don’t know, ask it to half pass. And then to post that disclaimer to justify the video?! At least when I post myself screwing up I take credit for it :roll eyes:
The “teaching a rider to lengthen” was nothing more than him repeating "okay, now come across the diagonal and lengthen. Good. Okay, come across the next diagonal and lengthen. Good. Now the next diagonal . . . " What a crock.
I said “chains/not chains,” referring to the previous discussion so people would know which video I was talking about. :yes: I know there was QUITE the lengthy discussion about it. No accusations here, folks!

That’s quality instruction. You don’t want words to get in the way of the rider’s concentration, it’s all part of The Method ™.

That is it. Clearly if this is the extra special training technique I am going to go out and announce I am a trainer too. I know all about side, diagonal, side, diagonal. I can for sure yell out directions to a person going around the ring.

Unfortunately, the IP address is wordpress’s IP address. I tried yesterday.
