Prascend--what should I expect?

So, what should I expect Prascend to do for my 24 year old gelding? Just started him on it a week ago, at half strength.

The most noticeable thing it did for my mare was help her from growing hair like a wooly mammoth. For me the biggget relief was having her Cushings under control which lessened the threat for laminitis.

Refusing to eat may be a side effect. If it happens, talk to your vet about reducing the dose and slowly increasing.

For my pony, it really helped with the excessive drinking and urination. It did not have much effect on his coat length or his appetite.

My little pony used to soak her stall and now she’s just a little bit above average when it comes to wetting. If the Cushings slows down your horse’s metabolism or if he’s too heavy, you can consider getting Thyro-L.

Our gelding had a swollen sheat that went down once on Prascend.

His weight even on a starvation diet was not coming down after two years on Prascend, he foundered and we added the thyroid powder supplement and he lost weight, got over his sore feet and has been 100% since.

He never lost appetite, but on more Prascend he needs he, a super polite gelding, starts to become aggressive.
We watch his sheat for swelling and his attitude to cut the Prascend down or go back to a full pill as his need for that changes.
He has not had too long hair or trouble shedding.
Adding the thyroid supplement helped tremendously, he has been very steadily just right after we did that.

Each horse is a little different, but you will find a way to manage as he responds to what you give him.
