Pre-childrens vs. Low Childrens Hunters

Just curious if there is any difference at all between the pre-children’s and low children’s hunters? (Class size/popularity, skill level, etc.).

Around here it is literally the exact same class… some shows use one name and some another. You could see if there’s a fence height difference or a different split for horses/ponies-- but here those 2 classes are the same thing.

At the big shows, it’s just a way to add yet another and another 2’6 class for junior riders and any differences in entry will be more about when trainers are there/what ring it’s in/timing for the rider, etc. than the actual class specs/expectations.

Ok- got it. Thank you!

Yep for us it’s the same 2’6" division. The name often depends on the location of the show and which associations they’re working with - some use Pre and some use Low (same goes for the adults). And some shows have both.

(and as a frequent flier in the Pre/Low Adult divisions, I prefer when it is “Low” instead of “Pre” because for some reason in my head that makes it sound less weenie)

In my area (zone 9) pre-child/adult is 2’6 low child/adult is 2’9.

In PA they are the same, 2’6" and referred to interchangeably based on the show.

I think where I’m from those are both 2’6 classes at locally rated shows, but are 3’ classes at the A shows…

Sometimes they run both of them, same courses but the Low has no cross entry restrictions, open to all riders in the age bracket while the PC or PA generally has restrictions (like may not show 3’ or over except Eq at same show).

Both are nationally unrated divisions anyway so you need to read the prize list to confirm what they are talking about.
