Preakness lead pony question!

Hi guys! I have to admit I am far from an avid race watcher. I noticed a lot of fairly flashy yarn braided into manes at the Derby. The Preakness ponies, however, went all out! Along with the yarn braided into the manes and matching polos, I saw a rainbow dyed tail and multi-colored stars stuck to a rump. Is this a new lead pony trend? More or less just for big races? Or are things like this starting to pop up all the time? Question has no bearing on anything; really just curious. (Will the next contest be for most flashy turnout for a lead pony?)

Totally up to the pony rider. I always use white wraps on my ponies, but if I am taking one in a stake race or even just for one of my favorite owners, I’ll match the electric tape with the color(s) of the silks. Pimlico always seem to have a jovial group. I think the fans really enjoy it when the ponies get all dolled up.

I loved that Chrome’s pony was done up to match Chrome’s silks, down to the diagonal paired green and purple polos the exact right shade.

Who was that paint with the stunning spiky markings?

Chrome’s pony was really good looking.

Pony people LOVE to decorate…here where I am, we decorate for Derby, Preakness, Belmont, Memorial Day, Susan G Komen Day, Fourth of July, and Idaho Cup Day…

I looked at Laurierace’s pics and it was the Ria Antonia’s lead pony that I found so striking.

Pony people take pride in their ponies and the horses they are ponying! Especially if it is a horse that is going to get a lot of attention, like California Chrome. His pony girl for the Preakness always dresses up her pony, and the fans love it.

Pinkdiamond - I saw you at the Derby, (in 1010 I think - when SuperSaver won) but did not know to take a picture as I didn’t know it was you!
