Pregnant Foster Dog Added BAby Pics 8/24

You can have pregnant animals aborted by your vet so that there will not be more puppies or kittens born. When so many are being killed at the pounds and at animal control, it’s the thing to do.

My vet has told me on those occasions when I’ve found a pregnant animal and taken it in but had the kitten/puppies aborted, that the animals were viable. Better to abort than to have them born and then either keep them or place them elsewhere. I always keep the adult animal. And if I find one with kittens or puppies on the ground, I keep those also. Because giving animals away does not guarantee that they will be taken care of.

 or we could euthanize pregnant stray dogs, which would take care of the problem even easier.

I think most people know that these are options, but not necessarily options that we are all comfortable with initiating. I personally would have a very difficult time “aborting” viable kittens and puppies. That is actually just killing them…but with a culturally more acceptable word.

Better yet - maybe people could just spay/neuter their pets and other people don’t have to make this decision.

Any puppies?

I sure hope everything is OK.

4-5 pups on x-ray today
Is now at least 66 days
She got a shot of oxytocin and a shot of steroid. If this doesn’t start labor tonight she’s having a C-section in the morning.

Wow, good luck Sugar, puppies, and foster Mom!

wow, I hope it all goes well for mom! thanks for the update!

No it doesn’t…but there are so many animals in kind, loving homes…the odds are high it will be great if you choose the homes wisely. Years back we found a young female stray, figured she was 6 months old tops. We took her to the vet to have her spayed and she was already pregnant. The vet said we could still have her spayed, and there would be no kittens. I didn’t feel that was my choice to make, so I took her home. She had 4 kittens, 3 survived and every single one of them ended up in a life long home. So in my little experiment, it was 4 for 4, mama and babies had great lives. Once she was done nursing the wee ones, she got spayed, and I ended up with 3 more cats. lol If someone is stepping up and taking care of someone else’s mess, they’ve got to handle it in the way that feels right to them.

OP - Can’t wait to see puppy pics!

We just got back from the vet.
Csection went great. 3 babies. Two girls and a boy. One girl is much bigger than the other two and we think she was probably the one holding up the show.
I have pictures but I can’t post them yet until the rescue makes the announcement.

I get to name the little peanuts and I was thinking about doing a theme for the litter. I’m a nerd so bonus points for nerdy things. Ideas?

I always wanted a litter of three, so I could name them Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy.

Because, I think it is in the Bible…"Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me (or is it “you”?) and something…all the days etc?

The male could be Goodness. They will definitely follow you!

Well, since mama’s name is “sugar” you could name them after candy things… like Snickers, Kit-Kat, and Twix or something like that.

Congrats!

Nerdy? Arwen, Aowyn, and Aragorn

Wow, so tiny! Congrats on a safe and healthy delivery!!

Nerdy things…wow, that needs more direction! LOL. In what way are you a nerd?

Going with the “sugar” theme - maybe Splenda, Truvia and Agave? Sugar substitutes because there is only one “Sugar” in your house.
