Pregnant Mare & Ulcers?

I’ve been told that you can’t give pregnant mares Gastrogard. So what is the typical treatment for a pregnant mare with ulcers?

You can give pregnant mares Gastroguard. They have not done tests on pregnant/ lactating mares, so there is no research that confirms that it’s safe, but it there’s also no reason to think it isn’t and most vets will still prescribe/ recommend it if the mare has ulcers. Almost no drug studies have been done on pregnant mares, so everything is a little bit of a gamble.

I had a mare who was diagnosed by endoscopy to have grade 8/10 ulcers when she was 7 months in foal. She was treated with 8 weeks of Gastroguard and delivered a healthy colt at 351 days gestation.
