Pregnant riders support group? :)
8 weeks? My time flies. My little S just turned 5 weeks! I’m not riding yet. I just haven’t bounced back as quickly as I would have liked. (This getting old stuff sucks.) I’m walking a lot tho and hope to start running a bit again soon. I’ll probably be back on a horse around Thanksgiving. And… It’s almost ski season!!!

Thanks for input on the target diapers. We’ve been using Pampers successfully. S is 95th in height, 30th in weight… So long and skinny like your S. I tried Babyganics and they did not fit. He would pee right out no matter how tight I fastened. So far no blow outs in the Pampers. Still in newborn size tho. Size ones are way too big for his scrawny frame!

I like Huggies wipes. I did not like the Target brand as much. Took more to get the same job done. I may give the Target diapers a shot tho…

Here’s a pic of S meeting Color yesterday. It went well. hopefully the link works, I’m on my phone feeding the kidlet as I type.

And you are so right about not getting anything accomplished. Especially if your are breastfeeding. My life officially revolves around my boobs now. It’s strange having to plan where you will be for the next feeding. I’ve had to feed in my car a few times. Thankfully Babies R Us has a mothers room that I have used when out and about. And Target lets you use the dressing rooms.
My kidlet is above 100% (off all curves) for height and under 50% for weight. I definitely move her up a diaper size when there are blow outs, not based on her weight. The tabs of most diapers can go past each other to tighten the waist and it’s just a bit droopy in the but. FwIW my babe was 27" and 13 lbs at her 4 month appointment. She was in size 3 diapers. She hasn’t been measured or weighed since but I’ll report back at the end of the month for our 6 month appointment! She’s beefed up a LOT since.

Ps. That pic didn’t work :frowning:

I am just over 12 weeks and have my ultrasound/blood test today to do some genetic testing. Excited to see the baby again - last time at 10 weeks it was flapping its little arms and legs so much already. I still look like I’ve just been eating too much ice cream, but slowly, the belly is filling out. I can’t believe that it’s November already…at the end of next month, I’ll be half way!

I also ready haven’t been riding at all for a few weeks. I am planning to get out to the barn today and walk around, though. Old lady mare needs to stay active.

GreyStreet - I hated that awkward stage where I just looked fat, but not pregnant yet. I finally look pregnant and I am at 23 weeks almost 24. At 20 weeks, I just looked like I was eating too many milkshakes (which I practically live on anyway). It just took awhile for my belly to pop. I think everyone is different. A friend is 2 weeks behind me and she looks huge compared to me.

She’s pure gold - my baby just started moving around consistently as well! Right now it is enjoyable, but I am sure it will get annoying. Hubby hasn’t felt yet, but yesterday I just happen to be looking down at my belly and saw it move with a kick. I on the other hand don’t feel ready for this baby to come yet and not wanting to skip any weeks, I feel like they are flying by. Nursery hasn’t even been started, work is crazy, house is not baby proofed yet… So much to do…

Ah I totally know what you mean about the “too many milkshakes” look. That’s me on a normal day (ie non-pregnant) - and its what allowed me to keep my pregnancy undercover at work for so long. I told my manager 2 weeks ago so she could have lots of time to plan coverage (I’m the only one that does my job and we are a 2 person team) - but just yesterday all my coworkers finally found out and were like WHAT?! You’re already 18 weeks!!

But then all their happiness and excitement made me really happy and excited. I’ve never been a baby person. I’ve never dreamed of having kids. So its nice to have all that positivity around me and its getting me into things a bit more. Of course all my barn friends are already picking out ponies haha.

JLC - don’t worry about having the house baby-proofed right away. Remember - newborns don’t exactly move around very much. Until baby is mobile- baby proofing can wait

Baby proofing is also baby dependent. I agree. Don’t stress over it now…newborns can’t get into anything. I was really worried about the cats getting into his crib, that turned out to be a complete non-issue. They couldn’t stand to be around the baby at ALL, let alone wanting to hop in the crib. They’d sometimes hang out in the playpen, but wouldn’t go near it when the baby was in it!

Our kid is NOT a climber. Half of my friends’ baby proofing requirements would be totally extraneous at my house. He was a MAD drawer and cabinet opener/emptier though, so we have an assortment of barriers on those, and we re-arranged a bunch of cabinets so that baby-friendly stuff was at his level (like the tupperware bowls, and the mixing spoons.)

Baby proofing gear is also an area I find completely overwhelming. There is a TON of crap out there. I bought pieces as they were required, so I could just go to the aisle 'o babyproofing and pick up one thing. We still have a piece of twine holding one coffee table drawer closed…all of the “fancy” kid-proof latches don’t quite work with the geometry. About the only thing we purchased ahead of time was a baby gate for the stairs. That was worth it, it took us a while to get used to it. And we had to cut a cat-hole in it, that crawling baby couldn’t fit through.

I am worried about my cats as well. Right before I got pregnant my husband and I adopted 2 kittens, they will be right around 1 years old when the baby is born. They already get into everything. I am worried about them jumping into the crib, glad to hear it was a non issue for you. My older cat I am not worried about, she is the friendliest cat there is, but I don’t think she will want anything to do with the baby. The kittens though, I am worried about, they are so playful.

I was looking at a bunch of those hanging/netting type arrangements on Pinterest when we were deciding on the Nursery, that you drape around the outside of the crib. I figured that those would deter my cats, but not pose a risk to baby. We also set up the crib in advance just to see what the cats would do, they were much more interested in sleeping UNDER it than in it. My cats are older though, one is a giant chicken, the other doesn’t jump all that well.

I had a friend tell me that for a few weeks prior to baby, they set up the crib and put tin foil in it. After leaping into tin foil a few times, the cat was sufficiently discouraged from entering the crib.

Our house is pretty small, and we tend to close doors. As soon as baby J started napping and sleeping in his crib, the nursery door was closed when he was in there. Another reason we didn’t have to worry much about the cats.

My biggest cat-related problem was what to do with the wet food. As soon as I had a crawler, we had to change our food presentation arrangement, much to the despair of our chicken-cat, who despises change. I’m sure she would have run away in disgust (birth of baby, care of baby, moving of food, baby gate…) but she’s terrified of the outdoors, so she stuck around.

I agree baby-proofing is not necessary before baby is born. You have a good 5-6 months until kiddo is going to be mobile. And you will have much more energy then to do the baby proofing.

For us not much baby proofing was required. Our house is tiny with no stairs. Mostly it was just putting baby safe things in the low cabinets. Now I have a 3’ tall toddler who can reach up on the counter, and it’s a bit trickier!

I hear everybody with the cats! We have 2; 1 indoor only and one mostly outdoor barn cat (nicknamed our ‘panther’). I don’t think the indoor cat would deliberately harm the baby, but she loves to jump on everything and snuggle in new places. The other cat is friendly around people but a pretty fierce hunter (hence the nickname) so we’re not sure how he’ll be with a baby- if he’ll recognize it’s one of ‘us’ or view him as prey. I like the tinfoil idea in the crib- we may do that to train the kitties not to go in there before baby comes! Otherwise kitties will be very supervised at all times with baby until we feel comfortable that everyone is used to each other. I also like the door closed idea when baby is sleeping, we’ll probably do that, too.

Our barn cat is a savage hunter, but she’s the one who likes our little guy the most! She’s 100% outdoor only, but when I’d have him in his stroller in the barn, she’d snuggle right into the footrest.

He’s 20 months now, the house cats have learned that he drops a LOT of tasty morsels, so they hang around at meal time. And he has learned “no kitty!!!” when they attack food he was hoping to get back…

We’ve gone down the road of no return in prep for number two… We are now the proud owners of a minivan!

I’m with you there, JLC, I’m 25 weeks now and feel like it is going so fast. If I could, I would skip Christmas this year to make things easier instead of having to do shopping for that as well as baby!

I guess that is more what I meant to say, I just don’t feel like the house is ready for the baby and the weeks are flying by. I don’t have the nursery set up, or really any baby stuff except a crib. I think my registry is finally done (hated creating the registry) and who knows if I will get everything on there or really anything that I need. Or what the heck do I actually need? lol… Plus we are doing major construction on our house right now, and trying to get all that done, plus everything for the baby is a bit overwhelming… Weeks are just flying by…

It’ll all fall into place. I got a case of mad-nesting around 32 weeks the first time. Did my cleaning, sorting, got nursery painted. I was busily sewing blankets and sleep sacks. Shortly thereafter I hit my beached whale stage and basically did nothing for the last three weeks except watch Gossip Girl on Netflix and cuddle with the cats.

Try not to stress about the details, and definitely take people up on offers to help. My parents ended up suspending their marriage-saving vow to “never, ever paint as a team ever again” to get the nursery painted for their first grand baby

I’m also in the category of I look fat not pregnant ! What week do most people start looking pregnant ? I’m also worried I’m gaining weight too fast !

It depends a lot on your build. I am short through the body, so I “popped out” pretty quickly after I started showing. Around five months the first pregnancy…more like 3.5 with the second (not a lot of time for me between babies. ) I did look like I’d gained weight though, my boobs went up a whole cup size in the first four weeks.

Some ladies don’t get the extreme basketball belly thing at all!

If you’re eating reasonably and feeling good, try not to worry about weight gain. There’s a huge range of “healthy.” Sure, discuss it with your doctor if you’re concerned, but the whole idea around limiting weight gain is kind of old fashioned and not necessarily the best measure of a healthy pregnancy. A balanced diet rich in nutrients is more important, your body kind of decides for itself how much to hang onto.

I really hate the fact that they make is weigh in every time we go to the OB. As someone who has borderline obsessed over her weight for her entire life, it is so stressful to think about!
Id rather they take photos and compare those instead. The numbers on the scale give me such stinking anxiety.
But I agree with the whole “try not to obsess about the weight” thing. You burn a ridiculous amount of calories breastfeeding and as long as you are eating a healthy, varied diet, your body is basically going to do whatever it wants to anyway. There are weeks where I’ve eaten nothing but fruit and veggies and have gained 2 lbs, and weeks where I’ve eaten burgers fries and pizza and gained nothing.
Staying active is also very important!! I think that’s what has kept my weight gain at a minimum.

About a month left for me…and my husband decided that tomorrow is a good time for him to go out of town for a night:( I did make him swear that if I went in to labor or anything happened while he was gone, I would be getting a new truck and trailer with no questions asked.(I am still annoyed, however)

I refuse to be weighed. My midwife is cool with it. There are other measures of health. I’m very tall and of medium overall build. I tend to be at the higher end of “normal” on the usual indexes at my most fit.

When I no longer have a helpless little tenant sharing my body functions, I know that I can do whatever I like and regain my fitness and goal weight. For now? Most important to keep my body humming and fill it with a good balanced diet. Despite the fact that body clearly thinks the end times are nigh and has decided to pack on reserves like never before…

I am right there with you guys. I’m 27 weeks. The nursery is coming together, but I have no idea about anything else. I’m mostly just waiting until after the shower since people keep telling me I will get a lot of stuff then. Creating the registry was seriously overwhelming and I don’t think I did too good a job of it, but oh well. The most foreign to me seems to be the breast pump stuff. A friend gave me her old pump, but I am at a loss for what else I need (little milk baggies?). But I figure I’m starting my birthing class next week so I’ll get some info there.

In the meantime, the cats have been curious about the new room, but have so far not seen any benefit to the crib. I think the mattress is too stiff for their taste. We got this plush rug from Land of Nod that cost a fortune but I figured it was an investment and matched our green them perfectly (we got this Ferm Living wallpaper that I fell in love with, it’s just on one wall http://www.yliving.com/ferm-living-kids-wallpaper-animal-farm.html) and the animals are basically obsessed with the rug since it is so plush. Sometimes a greyhound or cat will be randomly sprawled out on the rug as I walk by the room, which was fine until one of the dogs decided to have a party and tear up some paper in there. So now that room is closed, which is helpful to me, out of sight, out of mind.

Anyway, go easy on yourself. You only have so long where it’s just you and (as so many people are telling me), you don’t need much for the first few weeks. Fingers crossed that is true

I started really looking pregnant about 1 to 2 weeks ago at 22/23 weeks, before that I just looked fat. My belly is not the little basketball belly though, it is just big all the way around.

I have already gained 25lbs. I can do better on my diet. For the most part I try to eat the best I can, but I do indulge a little bit and probably too often. I have literally watched my weight since I was a teenager, I am not huge by any means (size 30 breech) and big chested with wider shoulders. I am not petite. I have to be very careful about my diet and can easily put on weight. I am at the point, that I just don’t feel like watching my weight right now. I do eat on the most part healthy, but like I said I am probably indulging way more then I should, but I just don’t care

Dang, I like the way you think :)! I’m going to remember that one.

Winter clothes are not helping the chubby vs. pregnant look. In a t-shirt or a dress I might actually look pregnant. Add a sweater and a vest - not so much. And last night, on top of that, I stuck my wallet and keys in my vest front pockets and went to the store. I happened to glance in the mirror when I got home…not a good look…
