PreGreen Incentive Program (or similar programs)

From “North of the Border” I am just looking for some feedback (positive and negative) on the PreGreen Incentive Program. I understand how it runs but looking for an idea of what people like and dislike about it.

Or on any similar type of program that encourages the development of young hunters. Can be a series, program or a stand alone class.

It’s a relatively new program, so hard to give too much feedback. I opted not to do it last year with my pre green horse because at the time of the registration deadline, not many shows were offering it. The finals appear to have been a lovely event, though dominated by the usual suspects and the “pre green” horses who have already competed at 1.25M in Europe. Not all that different from the rest of the A/AA shows, but a great concept if they can figure out some of the specifics.

Here’s a link to the Texas Pre-Green Super Stakes. This program was up and running a year before USHJA’s Pre-Green Incentive Program. It has been really well received with really nice payouts.

Its very expensive to nominate. . .

We’ve just enrolled our USA bred TB, and yes it was very expensive to nominate ($350 IIRC) but the finals last year had a pay out to the top thirty. If your horse has a chance, I’d go for it if it’s something you want to pursue and you frequent shows that host it.

I did it last year with one horse but I am not enrolling my other one this year due to complete and utter disgust at the failure to take any steps to get the European imports out of the pre-green division. If it ever gets limited to ACTUAL pre-green horses, I will participate again whole-heartedly. Until then, this program is a farce and I am protesting with my pocket book.

Political views aside, the classes were fun and good for my horse, just crazy-expensive. Unless you are committed to going to finals, I personally wouldn’t bother enrolling.

I agree with some of the above posters. It is just too expensive to nominate my horse for it on top of paying for two divisions at the shows plus the other fees associated with showing a youngster.
