Presley Boy

Anyone have the skinny on this horse? I’ve seen him at Spruce (on TV) and he is lovely. I vaguely remember an interview in which Ascarraga(sp?) practically said selling him would be akin to selling a family member. But here he is in the individual lead at WEG with a SAudi, being brilliant. Melanie Taylor mentioned that he had sold for many millions.

I would add him to my list of horses that I want to jump over a few fences just to see what that kind of power feels like. SApphire, Presley Boy, Gem Twist, Shutterfly. Now that would be an afternoon to remember.

There must be rumors out there.

Well what do you want, rumors or the truth???

I’ll take either. The horse is stunningly brilliant.

The word on the street is 5 million.

Yep. Melanie Smith Taylor, who is commentating for Universal Sports, said it was in the 4-5 million dollar range.

If you have the money to buy such a horse and the right instructor to teach the rider, then you have a great chance to medal. Whoever taught the rider did a super job. It is a nice partnership.

Khalid al Eid did win the bronze medal ten years ago at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. While he may have bought his way to the top with this particular horse, he does have established credentials as a top rider, not like he learned to ride recently.

It’s just an incredible horse, but the rider does look very talented also. I am a reporter here at the WEG and tried to interview Khaled yesterday, but he would not grant me an interview (perhaps because I’m a woman?) don’t know, but I did get to talk to his trainer, Rogier Van Iersel, (Dutch), and Stanny Van Paesschen, (Belgian) the Chef d’Equipe, and they were both very nice and accommodating to my questions. They both couldn’t say enough good things about the horse. Stanny said he was the kind of horse that “if you look into his eyes, you will fall in love.” Cute!

I remember, he was riding with Nelson Pessoa at the time, I can pronounce the name of the horse he rode to the bronze medal but can’t spell it to save my life.

Sorry, but I did not mean to imply that he just went out and bought this horse, then learned to ride. I knew that he had won a medal before.

What I meant was that he has had really good instructors and is very fortunate to have the millions to buy this amazing horse.

Without talent, the rider would not be in medal contention. There were other talented horses, who did not have talented riders aboard. They are not in medal contention.

You are right, he’s currently out in front of Rodrigo Pessoa, so he can definitely ride, he didn’t get in first place just on the horse’s talent.

I still have his bronze medal winning ride on video, at the time I was unfamiliar with him but was very impressed with his ride, I hope he continues to do well at WEG. Its always nice when one of the lesser known riders has a big win.

I got a call a couple months ago on the sale from someone at that barn… they said sold for 8mil… and there was no test/practice ride allowed. Of course for people who had seen the horse showing around… he is very talented…and I wasn’t surprised to see him at WEG

Is that US dollars? Still, if he wins a gold medal I’m sure he will consider it money well spent.
