We are in the market for a pressure washer to clean buildings, sidewalks, farm equipment etc. We would prefer a gas model over electric in the 3000 psi range. Has anyone purchased a pressure washer of recent who could make recommendations or share things to look for? We got the top 5 list off of Consumer Reports but would like to hear some personal experiences.
I have been thinking of getting one. Power Equipment Direct has this one on sale with free shipping. The Honda engine alone is worth nearly what they want for the unit
I’ve been looking at that one. Its highly rated on several lists
I have that Honda model, purchased a few years back at Costco. Starts every time, does a great job.
We have one of these. Ours would be bigger than you need but they make all kinds.
Ours is 26 years old , heavily used and going strong.
We just replaced our old one with a Generac 3100psi.
The soap canister is very easy to use. One thing to look for is how easy is it to move around / what’s the ground clearance? Our old one had a short handle and small diameter wheels, so you were basically dragging it across the ground. It’s already hard enough to manage all the hoses as you wheel it to a new place, so you don’t want to be fighting the main unit too.
Also check out where the hose attaches and make sure you can get to it. Is there enough ground clearance to the nozzle that you have room to twist a hose off/on? They all seem to be a bit of a PITA to get the hose hooked up, but the intake nozzle on our old one was both too close to the ground, and also within 2" of a metal casing that would get incendiary hot when the engine was running. So you risked 3rd degree burns if you had to fuss with the hose after you’d been using the washer.
Finally it has a pushbutton start which is a luxury feature that I appreciate more and more as I get older. I’m very strong when it comes to lifting, pushing, shoveling, but apparently not strong enough for pull-start engines. My arms just aren’t long enough to get a full-length pull at the speed the starter needs.
Word to the wise: if you live somewhere that gets freezing temperatures, make sure you learn how to winterize your washer.
I bought a new Generac 2800 PSI (?)—I think it’s a 2800 might be a bit more. I really like it. Easy to use. I bought it directly from their website and it was delivered, simple to put together, and works great. You can dial down the pressure a bit, which I like. It’s gas, because it has to go everywhere here.
