Price for used County saddle?

I’m in the process of searching for a used County jump saddle. They retail new (with premier leather) for $4995. I have a demo on trial right now–it is 14-months old, pretty good condition, but has clearly been adjusted. They are asking $4595 for it. This seems really high to me, considering it is used, hasn’t been well taken care of (not oiled, shows some wear), and I’d have to pay a saddle fitter to get it adjusted. Is this a reasonable price point? If not, what do you think is reasonable? Thanks!

That is more than I paid for my brand new custom County when I bought it. The models and features vary, so yours may just be more expensive than mine was.

That seems really high to me. Is that a used one through County (like a demo) or a tack store? I’m trying to think what I paid in the past for mine that were used - I think the most expensive for me was a barely used demo that I purchased straight from County for $3K when the same model was selling for $4K or maybe a bit more new. Unless I just didn’t want to wait on having one made, and it was absolutely the most perfect saddle that I couldn’t live without, I’d never buy a used one for just a few hundred bucks less than new.

Great, thanks for letting me know. It retails new for $4995–County Solution 2017 with bull leather–but no extra bells and whistles. Discounting it by only $400 for used seems way too high. What County did you get for under $4500? Who did you work with?

Thanks Horsepoor. It’s being sold directly from County as a demo–which is suspect is why its priced so high. Dropping the price by at least $1000 seems reasonable to me for a demo, which sounds like what you paid for yours; $500 seems absurd.

A demo saddle is different than a used saddle. Assuming that’s why it’s not as discounted as you’re expecting. I bought a County Innovation many many years ago at about $500 cheaper than new for my rep’s demo saddle.

If you want a better deal then I would suggest looking for a used saddle from a private buyer. I’ve purchased used from private sellers in the $1500-3500 range (for saddles in the $4500-$5500 range). But when I’ve purchased through County (which I’ve also done several times), I’ve paid retail/list for 2 and $500 off for the demo model for the other.

Mine was a Sensation. I worked with the local rep.

I found that the County demo’s were out of my price range. I found a used one through Chagrin Saddlery online that was MUCH more reasonably priced.
